Billet-DA-Shifter-med-web

Billet-DA-Shifter-med-web.jpg
supersize

Description: Designed using CAD technology, the COBB Blue anodized billet shifter body is CNC machined from 6061 Aluminum. Like our original design, the shift throw distance and shift knob height are independently adjustable and both can easily be adjusted with the shifter installed in the vehicle. Stainless Steel socket head screws are set in a counter bore for a flush mount and provide a clamping force that firmly holds the upper and lower slider shafts in place. This new design improves the ease of making adjustments while also being significantly stronger.

Pros: Adjustable = Cool
Cons: Tranny noise is louder than stock

This was my first mod and overall I'm happy with it. The feel is precise and solid (thanks to the Cobb Bushing). My only real complaint is that cabin noise is noticeably louder. Hopefully I'll get used to it.....

Pros: Adjustability and easy to do
Cons: Maybe sits a little far forward but that's being picky.

I have the old version with the threaded adjustments. Does the same thing. Only took about 30 minutes to install. No increase in nth. I'm happy. Check the Cobb garage sale for one.

Pros: real sporty look and a million dollar feel
Cons: none really. maybe add a tube of grease.

a really quick install, had it done in no time. may have to do a LITTLE cutting to get maximum throw, but still almost 40% less throw. in order to get most hight reduction i had to remove the rubber boot and what subaru calls sound proofing material. wich make the cabin a little more noisy but thats what subs are for.

Pros: Made from quality material, tighter shifting, shorter throws, and great value.
Cons: Modifications necessary for full adjustability.

This is basically a highly reccomended upgrade, but I was not interested in modifying the rubber boots like instructions advise which results in decreased adjustability. The Cobb shifter bushings are also highly reccomended if you get this shifter.
After fine tuning the adjustments my shifter is much lower, throws much shorter and thanks also to the bushings shifts beautifully and is far superior to the stock setup.

Pros: Looks cool, better shifter feel, adj. height & throw
Cons: some noise/shudder

Easily adjustable with great feel. Also bought the upgraded tranny mount and Cobb bushings. This was my first mod to the car and I wouldn't hesitate to reccommend it to anyone.

Pros: Pretty. Super-Stubby look! Super-short Shifts!
Cons: Pricey (relatively).

Man. First and foremost when finishing, I notice the look! Wow! That thing is mad low! I love that Euro/M3 stubby look. On to more important things - the throws. The feel is significantly improved. The throws are way shorter. Massive improvement. The thing is a real pretty piece of machined aluminum. Adds value.

I took it for a drive immediately after and wow! So much more fun to drive and quicker shifting! This is how the car should come from the factory. I did not have to cut the metal plate. I simply adjusted the botom height to the maximum (shortest throw) allowing for a couple milimeter clearence of the rod when in 1-3-5. No problems. I adjusted the top half up about 3/4 of an inch I guess.

Installation is easy for anyone half-way mechanically inclined. The directions are OK and are about 90%. They neglect to include that you have to remove the rubber boot or the easiest way to do it. But then again, I guess only a n00b wouldn't be able to guess. I didn't need a C-clip removal tool. If you have a very fine point needle-nose plier, you'll be fine. Save your dough in that case. They should also have included a small tube of grease for those who may accidentally wipe their old grease away or just don't have any. I'm nitpicking - no need. The product is fantastic! I'm very pleased.

Pros: Nice Machining, Quality Product.
Cons: Carefull with the bolt threads in the soft aluminum!

A great product. Easy to install. Sensible. Cutting is NOT required, because you can choose the amount of reduced throw you want. But cutting is reccomended if you want the shortest possible throw.

Otherwise, great engineering and quality machining / anodizing.

A little on the expensive side, but we all gotta make a living somehow.

Pros: being able to adjust the throw as well as height.
Cons: have to make minor modifications.

This is a great buy. Being able to adjust the throw as well as a height is a plus. The only downside is having to make minor fitting modifications. other than that i love it.

Pros: Double adjustable
Cons: Requires slight cutting of a metal frame in car for the shortest throw.

Along with this any sort of upgraded transmission mount is a must. I actually think the trans mount made a bigger difference in feel then this.

Pros: Looks great, short shifts
Cons: Cutting for shortest throw, squeaking when rubs on rubber

Great shifts, the bushings are a must when ordering this. Should include a tiny bit of lithium grease, but otherwise great.

Pros: Works, gets shifter out of way of climate controls
Cons: clamping system (three screws) could be more techno

Great product, improves throw and shift feel. I installed the shift bushings at the same time, can't comment on what made the most difference regarding the feel. If you buy one, buy the other! Somehow magically made my shifting smooth right out of the gate...maybe I was a little to lethargic with the stock shifter, heh heh.

Pros: great product in terms of adjustability
Cons: if not locked tight enough, can slip

Definately improved shifting from the stock shifter, but you have to cut a metal ring that surrounds the base of the shifter if you want the max adjustment (due to the shift linkage being adjusted and it may hit). I just adjusted it so that just barely rubs. Otherwise great product.

Pros: Great reduction in throws
Cons: Pain getting the throws just right

I'm on my second cobb STS. First one was the version 1 for my WRX. Much easier to adjust the new shifter compared to the old one. Pita for getting it just right. Now much improved thows but with a little increased effort. Way better than stock. No missed third gear throws anymore. Installed with shifter bushings and tranny mount. BTW used needle nose pliers (shaved down to fine tip) rather than buy a C-clip tool. Dremeled out the metal ring/bezel for added clearance and it helped with adjustability.
