Description:
|
"The massive bar and plate Import Performance Research top mount intercoolers for your 08-10 Subaru WRX bolt to the stock turbo piping with slight trimming to your factory engine cover. These TMICs will also accommodate a stock or stock replacement blow-off valve. The IRP TMIC flows 200% better and it will not fall apart like the stock tmic. The volume is almost doubled, and the internal passages are .375"; as opposed to the stock’s .2";: resulting in a large performance increase and the capability to handle more boost. fits 05-09 legacy gt + 08-10 wrx."

This intercooler is huge compared to the factory TMIC. However, this is it's downfall. it is just too big to fit properly. It hits the clutch master cylinder on the top right and the blow off valve has a tube on the bottom right that it hits. This actually prevents it from sitting straight. The BOV holes were not quite right and stripped out with the OEM bolts. Longer bolts solved this problem. Then it comes with a el-cheapo turbo gasket rather then an O-ring like it's perrin brother. This is def a perrin knock-off and has the same fitment issues that the perrin is known to have. Bottom line-this thing just fits like crap and if your gonna struggle with fitment issues, why not just go to a FMIC? Hey But at least its way cheaper then a perrin

fitment is tricky, but not impossible
|
|
Overall it is a solid piece. It's not perfect, but it works well and is not an impossible burden to work with.
Be aware of the issues:
- proper fitment will require shimming of the rear support bracket to prevent it from hitting the clutch master cylinder
- an AVO TB hose may be required (stock works with removal of donut gasket, but it can be a pain to get everything to seal correctly and fit over turbo flange)
- turbo gasket should be replaced with a Mr. Gasket Chevy 350 thermostat gasket found at most local autoparts stores
- trimming of the hood duct is required

reputable subaru shop couldn't get it installed. bad fitment with the TB hose; TB hose keeps popping off. tried AVO hose and new stock TB hose. even tried for hours and hours myself.
lesson learned don't cheap out on a TMIC. had to ditch the IPR and go with an AVO TMIC which fit fine.

it was a pain to get perfect. i kept blowing off the stock TB hose with and without the donut ring on the ends. I also couldnt get the turbo bolts in after i worked my way over from throttle body to turbo side tightening everything down. straight thru turbo bolts, or studs will help with fitment. AVO tb hose is necessary IMO. it gives u at least an inch of play compared to stock and also, once its on the tb and intercooler, it wont come off easily. Definately tune for this piece after install and dont be surprised if u come close to maxing out your stock injectors..im pushing the limit of my injectors and i also had to upgrade my fuel pump to an 08 sti one. my pump failed when tuning for the mammoth TMIC
