Description: While the STI version of this STS is 1 inch lower in height, OEM height on the specB version is kept, but they share the 40% reduction in shift throw. CNC machined and Tig welded in the USA. Matched with a set of kartboy shifter bushings (available separately), a major improvement in the shifting is immediately felt, while retaining the factory reverse lock-out. STi installation instructions are available on Kartboy's website in the shift lever section.

THIS IS SPECIFIC TO THE 07+ specBs with 6MT.

(Tried to throw up some pictures, but the system is not letting me)

Pros: Perfect fit, impeccable craftsmenship, quality piece!
Cons: Install

Tom D @ Kartboy has done it again! I almost didn't want to install it cause its so beautiful! But, I did. And I'm not sorry! Nice solid piece that has none of the mush of the OEM shifter and reduces throws by 40%.

Install with the reverse lockout cable is the only PITA, but its worth it...reason I still gave it a 10!

I coupled the STS with KB's front and rear bushes, TiC's pivot and linkage bushes, STi 6MT hardened mount, TiC tranny crossmember poly bushes and a Function7 pitch rod....I don't think you can get anymore direct shifting action other than moving the shift forks with your fingers....but thats just not adviseable!

Some may not like the notchiness this piece gives, but its not much. Come on folks, support Tom....there aren't many specB 6MTs out there and Tom STILL made a piece for us! Tom, you rock!

Pros: Shorter shifts, no metal cutting / rubbing part on 08 spec.b
Cons: Would like it still a little shorter shifts, reverse lockout makes noise when using from friction with shifter

!!IMPORTANT!!
To save yourself the frustration I went through with the reverse lockout, there is one thing you should know...

When you lift the reverse lockout collar and put the car in reverse, the lockout cable remains stationary and doesn't retract as long as you remain in reverse. You'll see why this is important to know when you are installing this STS. I tried all kinds of fishing methods recommended online, as well as my own. All failed. That doens't matter, though. You shouldn't have to fish at all. My recommendation is to place the shifter in reverse prior to starting the shifter swap and leave it there. If for some reason you bump it out of reverse by accident, remove the lockout cable from the new shifter (if you already put it in), and pull the cable manually as far as you can while putting the car back into reverse.

Note: you can remove and install the lockout cable inside this shifter without needing to disconnect the linkage or remove the shifter entirely as some directions online may indicate.

If you don't have the car in reverse, the cable will retract fully and will be too short when installed. The hole you need to thread will be about a half inch below the opening and impossible to get to.

When reinstalling the ring, first make sure to grease the area where the reverse lockout ring slides. Even wih grease, however, there is still friction between the ring and the shifter and it causes a scratching noise when lifting the ring. I recommend that you put an alan wrench or something halfway through the reverse lockout ring on the back side of the shifter and thread the hole in the cable to get everything lined up. Slowly tap the pin back in until you get it about halfway. At that point you can pull the car out of reverse if you need to. Also you should switch back to using the 3/32" pin punch to tap it back in at this point to prevent damaging / scratching your ring. It is actually easier with the punch once you hit the halfway point.

If your shifter is making a rattling noise at high RPMs coming from the reverse lockout, make sure you remembered to swap the rubber gasket that the spring sits on top of from the old shifter. Yes, that part comes out and should fit snugly in this STS.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you actually are using a 3/32" PIN punch. There are many punches in the hardware store. Most are tappered. You don't want that. You want a PIN punch, which is a consistent width the whole length of the punch.

Pros: Finest quality and workmanship you can get for a STS.
Cons: Reverse lockout cable install.

Not really a negative, as this is just the way the trans works and NOT the fault of a well crafted and solid STS kit. It pretty much doesn't get any better than this.

I have had this installed for a few months now, and it is fantastic. No issues at all and the new bushings are worth it to maximize the kit to the fullest potential. The White Delrin shift knobs are worth it too. In the summer months, when you park your car in the sun, they do get hot, but not so hot that you can't touch the shifter, unlike metal knobs.

Pros: Shorter, smooth with the bushing combo
Cons: seems to make a few gears noisier

This seems like a nice product. It is definitely shorter and more precise than the stock shifter. The only thing I didn't expect was that it allows the tranny (I assume) to make more noise especially in 2nd, almost a whine. Did anyone else notice this? This is a minor detail for me and I don't know if everyone has had this problem. It wouldn't stop me from recommending it.

Order directly from kartboy in a combo with the bushings and rear stay.
