Description: Carbotech XP8™ (1108™): A high torque brake compound with a wide operating temperature range (200°F-1350°F+). Carbotech XP8™ is the first of our racing compounds. Outstanding initial bite at race temperatures, high coefficient of friction, excellent modulation and release characteristics. Extremely high fade resistance, very rotor friendly with 100% non-corrosive dust. Excellent as a front brake pad for lighter ITA, ITB, ITC, SRF, H4, H5, and other cars that weigh less than 2,400lbs. Perfect for novice, intermediate and advanced track day (HPDE) use with any tire, and can still be driven safely to and from the track. There are several vehicles that use XP8™ on the street, autocross, and at track day (HPDE) events. Carbotech does NOT recommended XP8™ as a daily driven street pad due to elevated levels of dust and noise. XP8™ is also a great rear brake pad for almost any race car (Spec Miata-T1/T2/CMC). XP8™ is a great compound on the front & rear of most open wheel and sports racers.

Pros: Good initial bite, excellent firm feel, high temp rating for entry track pad (I use for street in summer).
Cons: If you try to use for street, they'll squeal some at slow speeds under light braking.

Purchased from BrakeSwap. Put these on the front before a 5 hour road trip. Bedded them in at the beginning of the trip.

Goal: Very strong braking for agressive street and occassional AutoX and a couple of track days. Biggest desire was strong, fade resistent brakes for high speed braking.

Verdict: Excellent.

- Coefficient and braking power: Very good. Comes on a bit touchier than stock (a good thing really) then grabs consistently and firmly. Much closer to the BBK I drove on another member's car (though obviously not quite as good as that). May need to upgrade rear pads to have a more similar coeffient (doesn't seem to be that big of an issue).

- Fade: Hauled down from 90+ mph several times with no problems. Track would probably be the best test, but honestly, I think you can put a car through some pretty rough paces by just doing very aggressive accelleration, de-accelleration on an open road.

- Dusting: Not sure yet. Honestly, I don't care that much as long as I get good performance.

- Noise: No problem under agressive driving. However, under gentle braking at slow speeds, they can squeal a bit (as I guess most track pads do) and sound a little rough. I've heard this fades some with time, and even now, it's really not that bad. The trade off to have full confidence in any situation (high speed, repeated braking, etc.) I think will be worth the slight noise under slow, gentle braking.

For the winter I will probably swap out for some Bobcats or AX6.

Installation Tips:
- With new pads and rotors, you'll probably have to compress the caliper pistions with a c clamp in order to install it.
- Make sure and clean off the disks with brake cleaner--new ones usually have a light oil on them.
- I only reinstalled one of the two backing plates (there's a ribbed one and a solid one on each pad). I did use the anti-squeal brake goop on them.

Pros: Strong braking; good feedback
Cons: low speed squeal; noticeable dusting

caramall2 summarized these pads well. They do dust a bit, but the performance is worth it. There is a bit of low speed squeal, but it is not bad and can be minimized by keeping things clean (just hose out out the calipers when you are cleaning the dust of the wheels.
