A/V setup in my 08 Spec.B (pics)

Here are some pics of my Sub install and DVD nav screen.

I have the gray wire behind the screen grounded so passengers can watch while I drive. I also grounded the pin on the connector under the driver seat so that there is full functionality of the Nav while driving.

A/V input connectors in the center console. I tapped the White and Red RCA's into the AUX connector's wire harness. Just hit the AUX button to select the input.

Nice job! Couldn't you have chosen a better movie though!?!?!?:p

EDIT--I'm a little unsure why you put those extra connectors in the center console storage though. If you tapped the audio into the AUX in wiring, and the video from the DVD is already going to the screen.....why do you need the other audio/video in's there?

I did it so that I can plug anything I want into the screen. I can switch out the DVD player for an XBOX or something without having to pull the Nav out or having wires dangle around under the seat. It just kind of gives it a more "finished" look like some of the other cars with AUX inputs have.

The A/V connectors in the arm rest is where the screen A/V inputs are.

Nice, that looks killer!! Did you run into any clearence problems with all the wires under the armrest console?

Nope, I just ran one wire (video) up through the center to the Nav screen. No issues there, just some well placed zip ties.

The RCA connectors are panel mount and have a low profile, and the wires to them only had to reach to the AUX harness (less than 4 inches).

clean install. i'd have done the same thing so you can tap into the screen with anything. :)

I need to ask a "stupid" question. How did you secure your sub to the car???

It just kinda sits there. It does slide around a little when i start driving crazy though, lol!

Please elaborate on the RCA inputs you used in the center console. Where did you get them, etc?

I'd like to do this myself.

I got them from my work. Gotta love the employee discount, I got all 3 of them for less than $1. They are "panel mount" so all I did was drill a hole through the center console and put the connecter threads through and thread a nut on from the other side.

I just then soldered the 3 wires and was done. The yellow connector ran up to the back of the screen. The red & white tap into the AUX input wire harness.

Not a fan of this type of sub setup but it does have a plus: you can drill through the fiberboard/plastic/paperboard (whatever it's made of) OEM tire/trunk cover and bolt the sub to/through it. That thing fits snug but is not held in place by anything else really. That would keep the sub from sliding around.

i got these things at Walmart to keep my sub from moving around - they are black plastic L-shaped things that have velcro on one side. i think they are to keep groceries from flying around in the trunk. the velcro grips the trunk carpet and the carpeted sub - i wedged two of them up against the sub and nothing moves even during extreme asshat driving.

i'll try to get pics if i get a chance.

Do you recall which wires you tapped into? There are 6 wires in the aux-in harness...

i dont remember exaxtly which ones, i'd have to pull it all apart to look. It was easy to figure out though. Just take your cable that you use to plug in your ipod (or whatever) and plug it into the AUX jack. You can then use a Ohm meter to test which wire goes the the Tip and Rings of the plug.

Just touch one of the rings of the plug with one lead of the ohm meter, and the exposed metal on the connector with the other lead of the ohm meter. Where ever there is "low" (should be 0) resistance you know you got the right one. Then just strip the wire insulation back a little and solder your wire.

Contine this process for the other connections.

If i ever pull it apart again, i'll take a picture or something...

is it necessary to ground both wires behind the dash and under the seat or can I just do behind the dash. I don't really care about using my nav while driving I just want video.

No, you dont have to do both. The one behind the dash unlocks the Aux video screen while driving.

The one under the seat unlocks the Nav while driving.

then just ground the wire behind the display. Anyone have a recommendation on which screw to ground the wire too? I dont see a good choice.

I ran mine all the way down to the cigarette lighter. There may have been a closer one, but I didnt feel like testing them all.

i actually had that same woofer!

i so regret selling it, i got it cheap from CC and to be honest its one of the best sounding subs i ever had.

its a very underrated sub, for some reason it just sounded good w/ ALL TYPES of music which isnt an easy feat for most subs....

you can also just get some L braces (metal) then screw those to the enclosure, and thru the factory (it's corregated plastic) cover to the metal floorpan. just obviously make sure you dont damage anything underneath, and rustproof the holes. velcro (industrial strips) obviously work as well. consider mounting the amp somewhere else (on a sheet of MDF bolted to the side or back) and it should allow the woofer enclosure to sit further back in the trunk.

just a couple thoughts.

Very true, I have had it for a couple years now and love it. I just wish the box weren't so damn big. I dont have any trunk left.

That is the reason i haven't screwed it down to anything. I can undo two wires and rip off the amp (held to the box by velcro) and pull the box right out. It's nice if i know i'm going to need to haul something big.

Mike,

How do you wire the audio and video wires to the connectors you used? I ordered them from your work. I paid about 20 times the amount to ship them as I did for the connectors themselves.

Anyway I am assuming the video wire has the main connector to solider the main wire to and the tab on the side for the shielding? Anyway please let me know how it goes when you get the time. I really have no idea how to do this the only reason I know about shielding wire is from hooking my back up camera up. PM me or post here please.

Thanks,

Anthony
