Stater noise

When I start up the 08 Spec B lately when I start the car (when it's cold) I get a dragging? Scratching sound. I don't think it's the throwout bearing seeing the clutch pedal is in when I start it. The TOB was changed in the late summer when the clutch was changed. Could the starter be dragging?? It doesn't do it all the time. Any help?

Mine has done that since I bought the car 4 years ago.(Every time it is below 30 degrees or so) I worried about it for the first year I owned my car. I figured I would wait to repalce the starter when it goes altogether. I believe the lubrication dries out and the starter hangs a bit. A little annoying but nothing to get too concerned about IMHO.

Correct, my 09 has done it a couple of times in Jan when it was single digits.

My 05 did it for about 4 years when cold. When it began to happen a lot during the restarts, later in the day, I replaced it.


If you pull it and grease the shaft it should be good to go. do it on when it gets warmer outside.

Mine does it too. I've gotten pretty good about knowing right when the car turns over and letting off. If you time it just right it won't grind. I'm going to grease it when I get a nice day.

It comes and goes, more frequently in cold weather. Earlier this year, it did it every start. Now, 2 months later, it's magically disappeared but the weather is still cold out. *shrug*
