I just hit 2500 miles and the low oil light came on. I checked, and it looks like it is about 3/4 of a quart low...the oil line is 1/4 above the bottom hole and 3/4 below the upper hole, so I assume this is reading 3/4 of a quart low.
I'm going to stop at Subaru tomorrow morning to get some oil and to have them check it out real quick to see if there is a real issue at 2500 miles or not.
May 10, 2013
10,300 miles (2500 miles after oil change)
1/4 low
did not top off
wait to see if consumption rate increases
May 23, 2013
10,800 miles (3000 miles after oil change)
1/2 low. Lost 1/4 in 500 miles. Snowball effect?!?!?!?
topped off
consumption rate may increase if oil is not kept at full?!?!?!

I did my first change at 1k miles. I know it's not required, but for the piece of mind.

Does the light indicate low volume or low pressure?
I know the 4th gen has an oil pressure light, and if its on you're in a bad place.

Yep, I was mistaken by that earlier too. 2010+ 2.5's have separate oil pressure and level sensors.
Keep in mind the 2013 FB25's spec/recommend expensive synthetic 0w20 engine oil. I'd hit the dealer for a top-up at just a just 2500 miles.
Anyone know what dealers are charging for a 0w20 oil change?

Local dealer is charging 60.00 for synthetic. I changed mine at 3000. Seemed a bit much, but dealer said its really important.

The point of this thread is to warn other 2.5i owners about oil consumption. I just took it for granted that our nissan and infiniti didn't burn anywhere near this amount of oil.
I was told that 1/4 of a quart every 1,000 miles is common. Really?!?!?!?!?!?!
He said he would not be concerned with my 3/4 of a quart at 2500 miles.
I asked at what point should I be concerned. I was told if I see the car burning more than 1 quart every 2500 miles I may want to have it checked out.
I'm guessing 6mt would be burning more than a CVT.
If anyone thinks they can go 7500 worry free miles on a 2013 2.5i they are mistaken! When I bought the car, I thought "how convenient". I was very mistaken.

If anything, you'd think there would be less consumption with the 0w20 liquid gold and the latest and greatest 2.5.
My 2012 EJ253, CVT (although a slightly different version of the 2.5) hasn't consumed a noticeable amount between oil changes and I have run it out to ~7000 miles on conventional 5w30. I did my first oil change at 5000mi and I'm at ~21K now. My plan since ~12K has been nothing but Subaru filters and inexpensive synthetic 5w30.

I may be a bit old-school in my thinking, but a heavier oil would burn slower. However, I can not run anything but what the manufacturer recommends as I have a 100K mile warranty and don't want to blow it.

It's prob not burning oil, but in fact may have been left 3/4 qrt low out of factory, but of course, they won't admit to that. Unless you ck the oil regularly and noticed its decline??

It doesn't look like my engine has burnt a drop of oil at all. The oil level is exactly the same after my oil change at 1000 miles. I have about 3500 miles on it now.
I suspect your oil level wasn't topped off from the factory. I would totally disregard what those fools at DGDG said, .25 quart is a lot for a new engine to burn. Keep an eye on the oil level now, and check it again a thousand miles later.

Having to top up oil is a common thing with the H6 haven't heard of it with the 2.5i.
I wouldn't stress it.

IMO, the oil level warning is SOA's way of covering their butts. They want to be all ecologically friendly with the 7500mi OCI recommendation. This way, if people run them low on oil between oil changes, to the point of a warranty claim, they can blame the owner for not taking action.
Makes you wonder if the low level warning is stored in memory on the vehicle. Real easy to top them up after damage occurs.
