2011 Oil Requirements

I know, not another oil thread. Looking in the manual it doesn't specify if synthetic is required or not. I know when I was at the dealer the guy said synthetic was required on the new 2013 model. The only reason I ask is because my dealer has a coupon for an oil change for $34.95 which states "Change engine oil per model specifications". They also have one stating is synthetic for $69.95. My thinking was that if the 2011 required synthetic I could get it for the $34 price. Wishful thinking ? LoL

Regular oil is ok but synthetic is recommended for your model and year.

Synthetic is recommended or required by Subaru ? This is really want I need to know as the manual did not state either, or anything about oil type at that.
