I wanted more up-to-date auto reliability information that included actual repair rates. So in late 2005 I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates reliability stats four times a year, so we can provide quick results on new models then track cars closely as they age.
We've had excellent participation by Legacy and Outback owners, with over 650 signed up. Among the 2010s, 29 have already signed up. If we get to 40 by the end of November we're almost certain to have a full result in February--far ahead of any other source.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, for free. Results for the Legacy are shared with this forum, as we have them.
For the details, and to sign up to help make this happen:

75 2010s--57 Outbacks + 18 Legacies--now signed up, so looking very good for a result in February. Thanks, guys.
More would of course be even better. The more owners participate, the more precise these initial stats will be.

Consumer Reports and Car & Driver ,magazine is your friend. Go to your local Barnes and Nobles, you will find the 2010 auto buyers guide with the reliability ratings of that model vehicle for several years. BTW the 2010 Legacy is on the recommend buy list.

C&D has no reliability data at all.
CR's data is nearly a year old at this point, and doesn't include the 2010. They're recommending it based on the previous generation car's record.
We'll have a result for the 2010 soon based on data through the end of 2009. And this will be the only reliability stat anywhere for the 2010 Legacy.
Couldn't have done it without owners' help. Thanks, guys.
Additional participants always helpful.

We have our first reliability stat for the 2010 Subaru Legacy based on owner experiences through December 31, 2009. The reported repair frequency of 30 repair trips per 100 cars per year is better than average, and is especially good for an all-new car.
Everyone who has been helping--thanks, I certainly appreciate it. We'll have further updates in May and August. The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide.

Just signed up - 2010 LGT
My uncle has been a member for a long while - SVX and A6 - he used to talk about it a lot.
Unfortunately, he had a stroke and isn't reporting any more as they have driven a total of about 2000 miles in the last 8 months.
I'll keep the SVX going as long as I am driving it too...

Very sorry to hear about your uncle.
Updated stats next month. We've had huge participation by 2010 owners. Of course, more is always better.

Thank you, I appreciate it. One note: recalls should be reported, but we don't count them as repairs in the reliability analysis if they're preventive.
The site has been doing quite well, thanks to the thousands of car owners who have been helping. Updated stats in a few days.
