Evening guys,
I've been seeing some people looking into the new '12 Forester filters. I've been doing a ton of research and cross checking and it seems like it's the same as the blues but a bit longer and larger diameter. Also, I cross referenced the oil pump performance specs for our LGT and the new forester and they are identical. The black filters aren't listed for turbos but I don't think that matters seeing that one site is selling them for wrx/sti/LGT also. Lastly, these black filters are starting to be discontinued already so i may be jumping on it sooner then later. Wondering the communities opinion on the crossover. Thanks

Edit: from what I read and understood, the black is actually the same diameter and above could possibly be a misprint. Read " The Tokyo Roki made Subaru 15208AA160 is the same diameter as the blue Honeywell, just a bit longer. I use this on my 2008 LGT."

Another filter thread...
Get Purolator's PureOne and change your oil no longer than 3,750 miles.
I use Shell's Rotella T6 5w40, others prefer German Castrol's 0w-30.
www.BITOG.com also has a lot of good threads on oil and filters.

I read a test a while back about that on BITOG, it's not an issue at all.

I'd be more concerned about those tiny feed holes than the pressure relief.

This was takin from Uncle Scotty over at NASIOC..."i guss a LOT of you have NO IDEA why using a filter with the proper by-pass valve presure is ESSENTIAL
here it is....with the wrong filter...your oil is NOT BEING FILTERED!!! IT IS BY=PASSING THE FILTER
THAT IS WHAT THE BY-PASS VALVE DOES....IT ALLOWS OIL TO BY-PASS THE FILTER WHEN THE DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE IS MET AND SUBARUS ARE DIFFERENT AND HAVE A 23.2PSI REQUIREMENT FOR THE FILTER BY-PASS
WAKE THE **** UP CHILDREN AND SMELL THE BLOWN MOTORS HERE....
THIS IS A BIG DEAL"
He's a little extreme but I do believe that it does create a situation where the valve is opening and oil isnt getting filter considering subarus have a high required pressure. With cold oil at idle, the system flows about 4 gpm, if you have a relief valve at lets say 15 psi that means your filtering about 3 gpm so 1 gpm isnt being filtered. It magnifies at higher rpms. Also, I don't think that oil inlet hole number is bad. Below is the AA100 black filters from years ago that have that same hole layout and is approved for our cars in the lubrication specs.

As I have looked into this too.... The Blues are just fine for our cars. Some people have an issue with honeywell or what not. Others run the class fav the Puros - great filter. But its not like its doing a "better" job. People just FEEL better by having it. I don't know of one case where the Blues were found to be less than adequate. This is sorta like an intake on our cars. Our stock intake is actually very good and a CAI really doesn't do anything outside give you stickers - hence why no real big name even makes one for the GT. Now you making BIG boost, changing turbos and fortifying your engine cause youre pushing 400hp - ok, new filter makes sense.
Unless you want the "sticker" idea - meaning you feel different cause you run the "blacks" do it. Of course this is all IMO and everyone has one... but with my build, people tell me the blues are just fine. Each his own i guess.

If GTTuner is worried about flow then don't get the Pureone 612 filter....Oil inlet hole/s area: Eight 4.5mm holes. 127.24mm2

Exactly. I had a thread where I disected a bunch of filters. The inlet holes were a major concern in my findings. I prefer to use the blue Subaru filters.
