First time this has happened, 21k miles.

1. Backing out of my driveway, I stopped, then put the car in drive. I hear a loud thunk from under the car when I gave it some gas.

2. Between 3200RPM and 4000RPM, there was a whining noise from the front of the car. Sounded like a tea kettle going off. Got louder as the RPMs neared 4000. This was in CVT mode. The blue thermometer light already turned off, so the engine was warmed up. I put the car in manual mode to try and replicate this and I could not. I put it back in CVT mode and could not replicate this. I made a few stops and still could not replicate it.

Ideas?

In regards to the 2nd issue I posted above, I let the car sit a few hours and it's doing it again. When the car warms up, the noise goes away. It starts at 3200RPM, you can hear it well at 3500RPM, and the noise peaks at 4000RPM. Could it just be because it's 15 to 20F outside? Although I don't remember this ever happening before.

I wonder if it's related to my oil change fiasco:

Only things done lately were the oil change and the ECU flash which is for some engine coolant recall I think. I normally don't go 3500RPM, especially for the first few minutes after the blue light turns off, so it's tough to say for 100% fact that this just started happening.

This has not been making the noise when it's ~32F or higher. Any suggestions?

No suggestions but I can confirm you are not crazy. I too had a very similar noise. Car is in the garage over night so first thing in the morning no noise (I assume because it is a little warmer), however, afterwork and sitting in 0 degree weather for 9 hours, it made this weird high pitched noise like a tea kettly. I did let the car warm up until the light went off. 10 miles down the road, the noise stops...assuming because it got warmer.

Perhaps it is a faulty set point in the "warm enough to drive" sensor that turns the blue light off
