I was thinking about buying a Subaru Navigation system for my 2011 Legacy 2.5i Premium. I have located a Subaru Kenwood FXDA09KLES4 unit that is lightly used for $950 dollars I was considering offering $850.

Otherwise I am looking at getting a JVC KW-NT800HDT. Not sure which direction to go in the JVC costs $658 but the Subaru unit would look stock and looks like it has some nice features.

Was hoping someone who had either deck would chime in and give some advice.

DONT BUY OEM!

There's the advice. For the money you're looking at I'd get something like this

Go with the aftermarket unit, that jvc is a decent unit. the aftermarket unit has far better sound quality along with other options to go with it.

For that price you could build an entire aftermarket system.

The only reason to buy the factory nav is for the dash appearance. The actual headunit and GPS functionality is horrible.

I also would never buy a JVC they sell junk.

Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine

I am looking at a Kenwood deck but like the software on the JVC better. JVC and Kenwood merged not sure what this means for quality for the JVC brand but hoping it means that it is now up a notch at leas for sound quality.

I am going to take the advice on this forum and just stay away from the factory unit and go with aftermarket make a lot more financial sense also.

Does anyone know, if you install an aftermarket Nav unit can you still hook up your steering wheel controls?

Yes you'll need one of the modules. Get you harness from this guy
http://ae64.com/20-pinfwdharness.htm

His includes the wires for SWC, the other ones don't.
