I need to get started on adding a few gauges so when I start to do power mods I can monitor the motor a little closer. I have read all the threads about the importance and necessity of various gauges and everyones opinions about them, but my mind is made up that before I AP or tune, I will have, at a minimum, Boost, Water Temp, Oil Pressure and Wideband AFR installed, and maybe an EGT and Oil Temp. So please, keep this discussion on topic, my question is below.

I have decided to go with Stack Gauges. Yes, I know they are pricey, but I plan to have the car for 2-3-400k miles and once they are installed, I don't want to mess with any failures or troubleshooting, ever. The WT and OP will be the Stepper Motor Gauges and I will likely do the Pro-Control (Peak/Warning/Recall) over the basic electric Stepper Motor gauges as the cost difference is only about 20-30 bucks per gauge.

My question is: Is there any real useful reason to have Peak/Warning/Recall on a boost gauge, or would a simple Mechanical Gauge do everything necessary? The price difference is about 130 hard earned bills.

What ye all think about it?

It's a neat feature to have but don't think I'd pay that much for it. You should be able to see the peak just by watching it while accelerating.

^^That's what I was thinking. And it's not like it matters a lot if it peaks at say, 15 or 15.2, right? The only thing I could think that would be handy with the pro-control model is the data logger leads. Those might be helpful for a tuner.

Stack should be quality, mechanical boost would be fine.

If you get tuned, you'll more than likely have an AP which can already do datalogging for you. AFR/WBO2 is probably overkill unless you're going further than stage 2 or doing some of your own tuning.

I find it hard to concentrate how much boost im at when in it. Im more focused on the road so I dont kill myself. Then I can look back at it and see how much boost I just hit. So im for the boost recall

That was definitely something I was thinking about. Would prefer to concentrate on the road vs. exactly how much boost I am hitting. The really neat thing about the Stack Pro-Control gauge is that you can program it for the full gauge face to change color, say white to red, at a pre-set reading and then program an 'over-high' point where the gauge will start flashing in red. So basically you can get all the warnings in your peripheral vision without taking your eyes off the road.
