1. Why did I do it?
After having to deal with CM FX350 and resurfaced stock flywheel for one year and shredding rear differential after I got back from the track about 2 weeks ago It was time for a change.
I absolutely despise FX350 as its not a very forgiving clutch. If not engaged perfectly it will violently shake the car and you have to stop and try again. I avoided coming to a full stop like plague. Driving in traffic was awful and it engaged close to the floor not giving you much time. Drive-able when cold but once warm it was torture. Very on / off.
Since I will most likely be going E85 -> 20G route next year or so it sounded like a good idea :P .
2. ACT SB5-HDG6 Sprung 6 puck + XACT Streetlite Flywheel overview.
After reading reviews about ACT HDSS I was a little skeptical of ACT but decided to roll the dice anyway.
I only have 25 suburb / city miles on it so far but this is my experience for now.
Pedal feel - Soft - ish almost like stock but springy. Your leg will definitely get a work out in heavy traffic. Engages pretty high up which is new so I'm getting used to it. So far so good.
Revs - I'm taking it easy but it revs rather quickly due to light weight flywheel (LWFW). RPMS do drop very fast so if you are not used to it you will stall it. Same goes for changing gears. You better do it quick
Downshifts - Pretty crisp and quick. No issues here. I like it!
Noises - Some noise when engine breaking. Sounds like little bit of chatter / rattle. Doesn't bother me.
Engagement - Best way to take off is to give it a bit of gas say 1000-1000 rpm and start to let out the clutch. At this point and time you give it a bit more gas and let go of the clutch slowly and the car just goes. More forgiving than fx350 ... a lot more! If you do it wrong transmission will let you know (vibration) and feedback through clutch pedal is great! You definitely know when its engaged. Its not punishing though.
Heavy traffic - I can only imagine that this will be quite a foot work out but now that I have learned that this set up likes a bit of rpm it should be ok once broken in.
Parking - A lot easier to do since I can take my sweet time. If you go slow the clutch will let you know when it grabs. The feedback through your foot / pedal is amazing. FX350 would rattle your brain apart. After more parking practice I have to say that it is tricky to move the car a low speeds.
