So for the past few weeks i have noticed and been aware of a chirp coming from the top passenger side bank of my engine. Its sortof a chirping noise that a bearing or even a pulley might make. I was coming off the highway tonight making a tight and somewhat spirited sweeping right hand and noticed that i could now hear the chirping in the cabin and it fairly pronounced.

I know its a subaru and our engines have lots of weird noises but this doesnt seem to be a normal sound. Its louder with higher rpm and doesnt seem to be a function of the steering or braking (obviously).

Anyone else have a similar sound? I intend to schedule and appt but with a lot going on in my life right now its tough to schedule that type of thing and possibly be without a car for a little

CN: weird rpm dependent chirp on top front passengers side bank of engine. No tapping feel or anything to the touch. Any ideas?

Just went back out after 10 mins to see if the sound is there. Apparently temp sensitive as well. Im going to guess its harmless because car is running great, no oil loss at ALL and great power. I guess because of the location it could be the timing belt just chirping a bit once it warms up.. Going to keep and ear on it for the time being.

Sounds like belt slipping. I would take it in sooner rather than later.

Yeah blizzard. It could be but from the sound i dont think its belt slippage. Seems to be confined to one small area and it almost seems to be emanating from under the valve cover but its hard to say. I did have the radio off and its pretty quiet in the car so i tend to notice sounds a lot more that way obviously so its possible its been this way since day one but who knows. Like i said ill keep an ear on it and make an appt if anything changes for sure. Its not always present too.

Did you ever find out what was causing that chirp noise. I've had a couple of mechanics listen for it and have narrowed it down to the turbo area. I cannot find anywhere online where anyone else has mentioned a chirp sound around the turbo area. Seems chirping sounds are mostly related to the belt or tensioner. My chirping is actually more noticeable when the car is idling. It's gotten worse. What's really weird is that after I turn off the car and shoot the door I notice that when the door shuts, the impact causes a breif chirp/rattle.
