Hi guys, long story short I bought a LGT that had bad turbo and still need a tune as the first owner had front mount + 20g + tune installed before turbo died. I just put the BNR 16 G and a couple of misc parts around the turbo to get the engine back to stock and started it for the first time. No cel, idle is ok first test drive I did was without boost and seemed fine for a car that had not been driven for about a month and a half.

Here is the sound clip, it's really like a exhaust leak sound but coming for the intake, not as knocky as a rod bearing but still seems to come for upper engine..

I also noticed a little smoke coming from the Prestone's bottle above the turbo, almost like this video but less smoke.

As per comments on this same video, I should watch for oil feed and return hoses ? Anyone got the same issue after replacing the turbo ?

Thanks for you help !!

Seems like the 2nd video has been deleted (showing steam/fume/smoke around turbo). I will put up my own shortly.

Can't view the vid here at work.

A little smoke from a new turbo is fine, its the coatings cooking off.

Any leaks may be from a fluid hose that is not tight enough. Go back over all connections, and make sure they are tight.

Did you burp the cooling system to make sure all the air is out of it.

Thanks for the reply max, when you get a sec, check out the vid and let me know what you think.

I had the Prestone bottle up to the turbo replaced and 2 hoses feeding it when the turbo was installed. That might be the fume I was seeing as there was no oil or Preston's smell just weird smoke. I'll post video, car is stored and I don't use it for now but I have access to work on it.

Thanks for the Prestone burping, I knew there was something important to do after replacing coolant or turbo components, I will make sure this was done. I didn't do the work, my mech did, so I have to do my home works now to start working on it myself now I found the 2005 vacations pics and thanks to whoever took all those pics ! Just that there is a LOT to check...but I guess that'll help

Hey guys, since my last post I came up with a diagnosis from a Subby specialist here in the local community that I hired to help me out with my problem. Annnnd it's a beginning of rod bearing.

I do trust the guy and I am now thinking of swapping another engine. I have access to a 2006 sti long block for 3000$ 68xxx kms. I read from another board member that he did the 2006 sti swap and it went well, anything special to remember for this swap ? Would this be my best bet to get car back on the road ? I would either keep for a part time rebuilt the old engine or sell it to whoever got skills to rebuild.

Also, I would like to have the car aligned at a shop about 5 km from where I am, would this cause more damages to the engine if I only go there no boost !?

Sorry for newbie questions but I want to get this car back on the road and need to start somewhere .

Last thing, if my power goals are around 300-325whp, while at swapping engine, what accessible improvements may I add to get to my goal ? I only have a BNR 16g brand new turbo as of a "mod" for now.

Thanks for your help !
