Howdy folks. I am thinking hard about buying an Outback XT and the first mod would be replacing the RSB. I have a Whiteline on my current, vintage OB and it has been fine. I see that Progress sells a adjustable bar for the 05-09 that includes the reinforcing brackets for not much more than the best price I could find for the adjustable Whiteline. They do say that some cars will require some clearancing underneath. Anybody have experience with this bar?

Seems like quite a few RSBs that used to be available have been discontinued (Perrin, Hotchkiss, Rallitek to name a few). Which ones are still available? Which are least problematic?

Thanks, Doug

I have the Progress bar on my wagon and love it. The reinforcement brackets are great and the bar balances the cornering nicely. I did have to take a deadblow hammer to the spare tire well a tiny bit to gain some clearance, but it was minor.

Thanks

So did you just bang things until the clearance looked okay? I would assume that you would do that, then bang a bit more if there was still contact... Does it show anywhere other than under the car, ie. does the spare tire well look bad from inside the back?

Hammering was minor. I unhooked the links and articulated the bar to make sure everything cleared by about 1/4". It does not even show, since I sprayed the areas I hit with undercoating. The look of the spare tire well is unaffected.

Great, thanks. Seems (to me) like the bar to get since it is adjustable and comes with the brackets that cost nearly as much as the bar from some places...

I had the Progress bar. I still have the braces, no problems there... but the fitment of the RSB wasn't adequate (rubbed either exhaust or spare tire well). I changed to a Whiteline, which fit well, and ultimately to a Perrin because it was larger. The fitment of the Whiteline was best.

Whatever you do, don't get the Progress FSB. Terrible fitment.
