Hey Guys,

So I was looking for a suggestion on a muffler for my new-to-me 99 outback. I had an 05 LGT turbo and loved my OBX exhaust with a resonator and no cats. It sounded great, but I know this N/A car is a different beast.

That car from the factory had 3 cats and 3 mufflers, but this one has just one muffer right at the bumper. It looks like itty bitty pipe. Is it 2"? Maybe 1 7/8"? I'm wondering if it's possible to get the low growly boxer roar without any raspy-ness up top by just swapping out a muffler?

Any suggestions? Do I want a magnaflow? Cheap turbo muffler? Help me out!

I have always put Magnaflow on other cars (including my other car lol) but I went with the clone on this car - 2000 GT wagon (made at same factory according to my muffler guy I've used for years). I got polished stainless with dual tips, it was so loud I couldn't believe it and I've put exhaust on every car I've ever had since I got my first car in the late 80's. So I went back the next day and replaced the small stock resonator with the biggest one he had in stock (17") and it made a huge difference. Still a little too loud IMO, but it's way better and the overall tone is very low and thumpy, it sounds great outside the car. I still might add a 2nd resonator a little down-pipe from the 1st one, but I'm gonna give it a week or two and see how I feel about it.

Nice looking wagon.

Yeah, I was leaning towards a magnaflow knock-off from my local shop here, a "Lou's" for you locals.

I have them on my truck and have put them on quite a few of my other cars and like them.
