Hey Guys,
I recently got the P0031 CEL code on my car and most probably i'll need a new O2 sensor.
Is there a possibility that the CEL was caused by a bad batch of gas and i could spare my O2 sensor? How long could i run the car with a faulty O2 sensor without problems? Will there be any side-effects?
Does anyone know if the front O2 sensor for the USDM Legacy GT is the same/or will work on a JDM Legacy GT (2004 model, EJ20 Engine) ?
Because the quote that JapanParts gives me for the JDM O2 sensor is bloody insane....
Thanks a million!!

You can run without a working O2 sensor, but car may run poorly, your MPGs will suck, and you could cause damage to you cat(s) over the long term due to the mixture being too rich.
No idea about what part you need...

You may want to ask Mike at www.AZPinstalls.com he's pretty good with finding stuff like that, may be he could help.
Most of us in the US don't have any way to get...well I wonder if a older Impressa O2 might work?

@LegacyDan
That's what i thought i had to spend, but it seems that JapanParts disagrees...
http://japanparts.com/db/parts_detai...&SEARCH_page=2
300 Euros???
Isn't this the correct part? Please keep in mind that the car in question is a JDM 2.0T Spec. B with an automatic transmission.
Btw, the CEL is not constantly on, so is it possible that the problem may have originated from bad petrol?
Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions!!

I finally got the chance to visit an autoshop in order to pull the code the ECU was throwing.(The CEL is now on all the time).
The fault code is P0031 (HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low - Bank1 Sensor1)
Is this the front O2 sensor? Or the cheaper part mentioned above(air/fuel ratio sensor)?
I appreciate your help guys!
Thanks

Alex, I have a '03 JDM Legacy GT that's giving the same P0031 (HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low - Bank1 Sensor1). Did you figure out if the USDM sensor will work? I'm seeing a Bosch 02 sensor on eBay for us$31 that says it fits all trim models but I don't know if it'll work for the JDM models.

Hey! I didn't get the chance to test a USDM O2 sensor and see if it works on JDM cars...
In the end i went with this: ( http://japanparts.com/db/parts_detai...&SEARCH_page=3 ) replaced the faulty sensor and since then the "check engine" light is off and the car is working fine.
This was the cheapest Subaru Genuine O2 sensor that i could find in the net.
The Subaru dealership in Cyprus wanted around 250 Euros for the same part!!!
Hope this helps!

What was your shipping times?
Just ordered mine to be shipped to New Zealand.
Hope that the shipping was fast?
My JDM GT has burnt through two of these sensors in 2 years! The first one I purchased locally for around $400 USD! thanks for the link

If i recall correctly, i got the sensor after about 10 days. But i was in Cyprus at the time, so i don't know how long it will take them to ship it to New Zealand. I used JapanParts a couple of times in the past and i was always very happy with them!
400 bucks??? I thought the dealership in Cyprus was greedy enough....
Glad i was able to help you save some money though!
How is the Legacy treating you? Is it AT or MT? Any mods?
