So my car is showing the check engine light and the cruise control is flashing, along with a rough idle when stopped. Is it safe to drive to the nearest auto parts store and get the code pulled, I cant get the car into the shop till Tuesday and really can't be without it. Has anyone had the same problem? Its a 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Limited, the turbo was replaced with a new factory turbo under warranty in January. The spool came apart in the turbo. It is no longer under warranty though.

As long as the CEL isn't flashing you are good, but read code as soon as you can.

Also check your gas cap!

Check your oil level too. I had the same behavior for low oil (no oil warning light) because the ECU was pulling timing. I drove ME to MA like thatt, no problems. Don't recommend that, but if that's the problem, you should be okay if it's low, but not gone. Keep in mind that this display signal could indicate any number of codes. This is just an easy check.

Pull the maf sensor wire and see if the idle smooths out. You may just have a boost leak or a line popped off.

same thing happened to me on the race track, the boost line came off and sent the engine into the same symptom as yours. look under the front of the inter cooler in the center and that is where the line plugs in.... chances are it just came off.

I recently experience such an episode of cel comes on with cruise control flashing and rough idle. The codes were misfire with cylinders 3 & 4. I first changed spark plugs, which didn't help. Then changed coils, which didn't help. It finally came down to my fuel injectors were dirty. Bought a bottle of BG44K from local autoshop. Took care of problem and codes. Engine running smooth again.

I have had my Subaru since September 2008. I bought her used with 79,000 miles. December 2011 my car went into this spiratic cruise mode. I noticed first the CEL came on and cruise flashed. The moment I noticed this I lost my gas pedal and the car coasted at about 15 miles an hour. Has anyone else lost their gas when this happens? She's continued to do this all year from time to time. The garages have no idea except that it may be a safety procaution. I pull over and the ecu's reset after 10 minutes and I go on my way. It has now done it 4 times in the past 2 weeks and is taking up to 20 mins to reset. Today the car did it again and would not reset. After half hour I turned the car back on and she did not move. Usually she revs and wants to get back in the cruise mode. I hit the gas and my gas pedal is working with the CEL on and the cruise still blinking. I drove home and my bf unhooked the battery for it to reset. Any advice?

The CC light flashing is normal when you get a CEL. Don't worry about that. Most cases having nothing to do with CC.

You need to stop at a auto parts store, they will read the code for free. Tell us what the code is.
