I have a 2003 Legacy. I love my car. About 5 years ago it had the whole bad/corroded head gasket issue, leaking antifreeze into the engine. After fighting to the DEATH, I got Subaru to pay me back for it 100%. Since then I've been changing the coolant every 20k-30k miles, as widely suggested, and the mechanic uses the formula recommended by Subaru.
I might be wrong, but I am suspecting it might be happening again. I pray I am wrong. But I have issues happening very suddenly the past few days to a week in this order:
- Directly after I shift, if I try to accelerate at a speed that's too quick and pisses something off, the car skips/jumps just a little bit before smoothing out.
- Got out of my car the other day and smelled antifreeze leak.
- Now it's having trouble starting. My battery is pretty new and the car is in very good shape, running extremely well. At first it was a few extra turns to start, now it's many many of them. It got worse quickly.
I'm bringing it to the shop tomorrow morning. I guess I'm just posting to see if anyone has any opinions or has run into this before.... My car has 193k miles on it. Again it is in such great shape. I'm jumping the gun thinking about a trade-in if it truly is the head gasket and the repair is massively expensive. But also I have to weigh the cost of another car when I know this car will last me a lot longer if I just fix it. Also, I'm just simply not ready for a new car. It seems stupid to jump the gun like that when I'm not sure. Might just have to suck up repairs.
Nice to meet you all.....
