I've been mulling over some cheap wheels and a set of snows for this winter so I decided to check TR tonight. Lo and behold, under "Preferred Winter Tire and Wheel Packages", they list a 17x6.5, 5x100 black steel wheel. That's choosing 2008 LGT with metal valve stems. I dunno about Spec B/other years but I know someone will be glad to see this.

Why spend $600+ just to get 4 crappy aluminum winter wheels when a cheap steel wheel will do the same job at 1/3 the price?

SE PA can get either wet, damp snow or dry powdery snow or even a good coating of ice on top so it's a toss up. But yes, any and all of the above would be considered winter conditions. We see more snow and ice but also snow melts that refreeze overnight.

Gotcha. Sorry, we don't get much snow here in Texas so I really never thought about winter wheels as a must have.

Even here it's not a must have but our plowing operations can suck at times and a little extra insurance is always nice. Especially if you're at work or out somewhere away from home and it starts up. A few years back we got ~70 something inches in one season and it would have been nice to have them.

+1. I'd LOVE to run a set of 195 or 205 snow tires on steelies.

But then again, I don't live in a snow-region anymore.

If the wheels were 16 x 6.5 that would really be something to celebrate. 16" winter tires are a lot cheaper than 17 inchers.
