A few weeks ago. I noticed I had an oil leak at my oil filter (it wasn't on tight enough). I tightened it and filled it up with oil. Now for the past couple of weeks, my exhaust is putting out bluish-white smoke when I do a cold start. The smoke only that for a couple of seconds then it is gone. Should I check for seals to see if everything is tight?

Probably just morning condensation, did you check your oil level?

Blue smoke and white smoking coming out of the exhaust exit mean two different things. Blue smoke is oil, white smoke is coolant.
If the filter weeped oil because of the gasket, smoke wouldn't be coming out of the exhaust exit. If that is the case then I would think you have other issues.

Could it be the turbo leaking oil?

i would first pull the down pipe off and feel your turbo for play (maybe theres a way to check if thats whats causing your car to smoke without taking the dp off, but i don't know of a way) but I'm going to guess the valve seals are bad. a buddies wrx would smoke at start up and when he would get on the throttle hard, but it could also be something else. a leak down test should help determine the problem.

I would check the intake first to see if oil is in the tube to the throttle body. This will cause a smoke on start up. Are you loosing any fluids? Valve stem seals are a possibility but so is blow by on the piston rings. Pull the plugs after it sits overnight and see if they have deposits on them.

I have the same issue. Oil level never really seems to change though so whatever oil loss I do have is not substantial enough to be noticed every 3500 miles. My friend at work said that when I step on it hard there is a quick puff of blue smoke as well.

That quick puff has always meant blow by on the valve guides to me.

Blue smoke hitting boost could be a number of things but your not using a lot of oil so dont sweat too much.
Turbo seals/blow through to intake, take your headers off and check there if you fancy 30 mins under your car, if they are dry you an eliminate big issues.

Well the issue was the filter was just barely loose, so ended up being a slow leak over a course of a couple months. I tightened it up, so no more leak. As for the smoke problem, that was due to the leaked oil that got on to the Kelvar or whatever the material is on your skid plate. When you start your car up, it burns that oil soaked kelvar up thus causing the smoke. Therefore you have to remove all of that and wash the skid plate off.
