Brake pads sliding?

It sounds like the brake pads are sliding in the calipers when braking in forward and reverse. Does anyone else notice this? Remedies? I know it's not the abs testing. This sounds like the pads.

The technical term is pad shift. You can live with it or remove the pads and put a small amount of high temp grease on the ears of the pad (part that slides in the caliper mount). Be sure not to get any on the friction material.

That's a good thing IMO.

It's better then having them stick in place like they can after a good'ol rust-belt winter.

I haven't touched my 2012 Legacy yet, but on any of my other vehicles in the last ~10yrs, if I wanted decent brake life, a yearly brake disassembly, clean, re-grease is required. Especially on rear disks. They catch twice the crap.

For what ever reason, decades ago it wasn't a problem.
