I did a search and couldn't quite find what I was looking for. I seen one thread where it was close but the video had been removed.

I bought this car with 97,000 miles on it the beginning of the year and it now has 105,000. I'm the 3rd owner and the 2nd owner had it just for 4-6 months or so. It was completely stock when I bought it also, I'm at a stage 2 now.

There is a rattling noise I hear when I'm sitting idle and blip the the throttle a bit, just after I lift off the throttle. Doesn't matter if it's a couple hundred or several thousand rpms. It seems to be the same amount of rattle every time, never gets louder either. It's done this since I've owned the car. I've never noticed any weird mechanical issues or oil consumption problems, burns about 1/2 qt every 3,000 miles.

Anyone got any suggestions, first thing that pops in my mind (after reading the threads in the search) is the shaft play but I have no whirring noise, the noise is consistent.

If you want a video then I'll get one as soon as I get home from work.

Make sure all the heat shields are tight. There are about 6 of them on/around the whole exhaust.

Jesus, why the hell didn't I think of that in the first place. I don't know how many of those I've ripped off over the years because of rattling, mainly off of catalytic converters.

I believe it's more than that, thin metal rattling together is very distinctive, but I'll definitely check it out.

The heat shield under the passenger side head rattles on my wagon, but it's a lose heavy rattle.

The bolts that hold it tot he manifold have rusted off.

It only rattles right before idle RPM, never anywhere else in the RPM range...

Strangely enough, my wagon has developed a similar noise since late last month. It happens pretty consistently just above idle like you mention, and typically starts again around 1900rpm-2400rpm.

Have you also done a search and pretty much came up empty handed like me? I really cannot find too much on this type of noise. To me, it's not a heat shield type of rattle as you can tell by the video but more of a bolt/nut slapping back and fourth...kind of like shaft play in a turbo but Luckly the blades haven't done any damage, yet.

It's little more pronounced then a heat shield rattle/noise. Also seems to be more prominent on the driver side of the engine bay, hopefully ruling out anything with the turbo. It only really seems to make the noise when I have any tension on the throttle or until rev's come back to above idle.

Hmm, I would def check the Turbo. Can't rule out anything with these cars.

Edit: just noticed you mentioned the noise was more prominent on the driver side. Boost leak maybe?

Noise more on the driver side, dunno. I haven't had anyone help me out on blipping the throttle and me under the hood. I guess that's the next step...

I haven't noticed any performance drop since I've owned the car either, even with the added boost of stage 2......on a stock clutch with 105k on its belt.

Hey, check out my thread. Not sure if our sounds are the same, but I was having a sound off of throttle and at idle when really cold. Like sub-freezing temps.

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthrea...gi-196286.html

My problem was a cracked weld on an exhaust pipe going into my resonator. Got it fixed for free at a muffler shop, but they said normally it'd cost 20-25 to fix.

Just something to look into.
