I know you're all sick of seeing these threads, but after searching I wasn't able to find a really good answer. To make matters more complex, I just replaced the clutch last weekend- so only 200 mi on the new clutch. I want to make sure this isn't related to that.
I was on the freeway on the first long-ish trip since the clutch job. I wasn't romping on it, but I did have to pass someone for a lane change, so there was a bit of gas and then an exit cloverleaf. After the cloverleaf my wife said "what's that noise?"- I hadn't heard anything yet. It was a whine coming from the engine bay. It wasn't bad at first but got rapidly worse, and was accompanied by a loss of power- almost all power. The whine was not related to the drivetrain spinning (as far as I can tell) but did react to more or less throttle.
It does not really make the noise when the car is parked and the engine is rev'd- the whine is really related to load on the engine, and a lot of gas pedal.
Car is bone stock, about 55k miles...right in prime time for the turbo to go...
