Do you guys get your oil changes at your Subaru Dealer (Location) or go somewhere else? Just curious. the only Subaru dealer is in Queens and in New Jersey

There are some Speedy Lubes that i've been going to for years with other vehicles, and never had any issues...

Thoughts?

I bought a maintenance plan, so I go to the dealership until it runs out. Once it does, I'll probably go to a Subaru speciality garage a few towns over for my maintenance needs.

My car came with 2yrs maintenance free (oil) so I will have them (Sewell Subaru) do it. After that I'm doing it myself using their oil and filter.

If i do go to a different place to do my oil change, should i bring my own filter or would any filter for fits my Legacy work?

Sorry for the questions but i'm trying to make it easier on me.... driving out to queens or New Jersey for an oil change (i'm from Manhattan) would just take too much time.

I do my own as well. If I would recommend a NY dealership - I'd go with Grand Prix.
Its a bit of a drive out to Rt 106/107 but WELL worth it.
They rock for anything service/parts related.

If you're going to have a local (Manhattan) shop do it (maybe a Spanish Harlem or East Villege shop)
then yeah, by all means bring your own oil and filter. Personal preference and there are a lot of threads on what to (or not) to use.

I usually go with Castrol Edge Titanium, also like Motul and Amsoil Signature Series oils (OEM viscosity).
And either grab a Subaru black oil filter or a Purlator PureOne.

Someone recently posted that the Mazda RX8 filters fit our cars too.
They are larger, made by the same manufacturer as the JDM/black Subaru filters and have the correct oil pressure specs.

I'm going to try one next time.
