my 2005 lgt has a problem starting, I've been running my setup for 2 years now with no problems.... I got a new truck a couple of weeks ago and left the car sitting for about 10 days, I get in the car last night, it turns for about a second but not enough to get it to start and then it just cuts.....my security light in the dash keeps flashing. I was woundering if it could be that the key has to be reprogrammed or something....nothing has changed in the car, it turns but just wont start..... please help!!!!!!!

So your saying the engine will spin over but stops spinning after a second or two ?

That security light always blinks, forever.

I would start with the basics - check the fuel pump and relay. Do you hear the pump prime when you turn the key to the on position?

Wait...reread your post. Sounds like your battery to me. I think if it is security related - the starter would not even turn over once.

the security system does not control operation of the starter, just operation of ignition(spark). so the engine will spin but not start is there is a security issue.

Have you tried jumping it? How are you sure it isn't battery?

Sounds like battery to me too. Dying batteries sometimes won't completely kick the bucket but just won't hold a charge more than a day or two.

I hope you keep the battery terminals clean. That can cause starting issues too. After you clean them, put a good coat of grease over, around and under them to keep moisture out.

BTW, How old is the battery ? or did I miss your answer ?

Batteries don't last much more then 6 or 7 years if your lucky. I normally replace mine before the 5th winter. Better safe then sorry some cold January morning.

Do you have more than one key? For giggles, try another one.

Not sure how it works on the legacies, but on the impreza's the security system has ignition cut out. You either hit unlock on the wireless key fob, or hold a button down under the dash to disable the security system. The impreza's have a blue connector in the dash below the steering wheel, that interupts the starter. The security system installs in line at that blue connector. If it's the same on the legacy, you can connect the blues to bypass the security system.

I still bet it's the battery one way or the other. Either a low battery fooled the security system into resetting, or the battery itself doesn't have a enough juice to keep cranking.

thank you my friend, very usefull info here. this is exactly what the car is doing...

''The ignition antenna receives a ID code when the key is inserted in the cylinder and if the codes match the car will stay running, otherwise it shuts off within a few seconds.
If an incorrect key is used, the car will run for a few seconds and then shut off.''

So I beleive my only option is to take it to the dealer and have my key reprogrammed...unless someone here knows how to do it.....

I am not having this problem, I changes the cluster on my 05 LGT and after i put everything back together and try to the turn the car on it wont! .. the security light is on and blinking so basically the stock alarm will not let it turn on ( no aftermarket alarm just stock). At one point it turned over but then shut off, wouldnt even let me accelerate, it is ad if it has a cut off of some sort. Could someone please tell me how to deactivate the alarm!??!?!?!? ( i have already tried disconnecting the battery but that didnt work)
