After a long wait my '13 WRX is supposed to arrive next week. There's a couple of people who have expressed interest in my wagon but I'm not sure what it's worth? KBB private party good condition is $7,676. It's a rare 5MT but has high mileage. What do you think I should ask for it?

Year, Make and Model: 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited Wagon
Color: Brilliant Silver Metallic
Miles: 170,XXX
Transmission: 5 Speed Manual
Title: Clear - In hand
Lien: No liens
Location: Enumclaw, WA

History
Original owner, purchased new from Chaplins Subaru in April 2005. It's been my daily driver ever since for an 80 mile commute to work.Involved in very minor rear end accident in 2008, rear bumper was buffed out and polished. Still has original paint everywhere. Has quite a few rock chips and sand pits on the front bumper, a few small door dings and 1 small dent on the left fender. Interior is in very good condition. Some wear on driver seat bolster.

Both rear wheel bearings were replaced under warranty.
Oil changed every 5k miles with OEM filter and 5w30 Mobil 1.
Trans/Diff oil changed every 30k with Mobil 1 and Subaru Extra-S.
Timing belt, water pump, and spark plugs at 105k.
Rear Control arm bushings at 115k.
Centric premium rotors and Hawk pads at 120k

Stage 1 at 10k miles, gutted UP and Cobb AP.
Stage 2 at 20k miles, gutted DP.
Stage 3 at 120k miles, turbo, fuel, bellmouth DP, TMIC, Infamous E-Tune. Also ACT street clutch, WRX flywheel, throwout bearing, both front axles. Work done at Outback Auto.

Options/Mods:
  • 35% tint from Starshader in Puyallup
  • Auto-dimming mirror with compass
  • Under seat sub
  • Momo shift knob
  • Cobb short shifter
  • Subaru/Thule roof crossbars w/lock
  • Defi boost gauge installed in cubby
  • Innovate LM-1 wideband installed in cubby
  • BNR 16G turbo with oil line kit
  • Deatschwerks 740cc injectors
  • Walbro fuel pump
  • Grimmspeed EBCS
  • PTP turbo blanket
  • IPR TMIC
  • ERZ/CNT catless DP
  • ACT street clutch PP and disc
  • Infamous Performance stage 3 e-tune
  • WRX flywheel
  • Enkei PF01 7.5" x 17 wheels
  • Conti Extreme DWS tire with ~15k miles
  • Stock wheels (have curb rash)
  • New battery
Issues:
Smokes a little on cold start, uses a quart of M1 oil every 1,000-1,500 miles. Clutch chatter, doesn't slip but sometimes chatters when released. According to Outback Auto this is fairly common with a performance type clutch.

Taking the smoking aspect out of it: i would ask $12k for it, and accept $10k.

Less since there is something that needs attention.

WTH? Everyone is selling their wagons? Grumble...I'll never find a sucker, er, buyer for mine.

Forgot the OT comment - That's a nice parts list. The wear on the motor is a bit high (oil use indicated). You might step up to higher weight oil and see if that gets better. 12sechatch is probably close. If you put it on CL, start a bit higher and be prepared to negotiate.

Boxkita, any potential buyer would be comparing apples to rhinestones if they were to cross shop your wagon with these lesser examples.

Sorry, but expecting to get $10-12k out of your car is a joke from the sound of it. Not trying to be rude here, just realistic. It's likely that the car needs a new engine--it's not really a matter of if, just when--and it has 170k miles on it. That said, any buying should expect to drop between $2k and $7k into the car for that depending on specific parts and whether they do the labor themselves or not.

The blue book price sounds somewhat reasonable to me given the fact that you have a nice stage 3 setup running on the car, but you really have to find the right buyer. Realistically if you disclose the smoking issue to all buyers I would think closer to $5/6k.

You could also part it out and see what carmax or something similar would give you for it in stock form. Quite a bit of work though, I'm sure.

^^I'm not disagreeing with your principles, just pointing out that you're forgetting that this car is in the pacific northwest. They routinely fetch a pretty high premium ($2k more than blue book, sometimes higher) here.

that does not discount the damage done, as this is the biggest variable.

example:

there have been multiple 5sp LGT wagons with 90k-110K sell for $13K-15K in the last couple months here.

Wait a minute...you've a 5EAT? Don't waste time/energy trying to bring your wagon here to sell. Those are really dime a dozen here...it's the 5MT wagons that people are clamoring for. The unicorn GRP unmolested ones get top dollar here!

You've got a smaller market for stage 3 anything. Luckily though the market for your car is a good one around here. Props to you for disclosing the bad, which regrettably, is a fairly sizable factor in having to take a lot less than it probably feels like it's worth to you.

I think if you got anywhere around blue book in it current state you did really well. I'd list it for $9500 dollars and see what kind of response you get indicating you are "negotiable" in light of the motor condition.

I just bought mine a year ago and watched the market like a hawk for 2 years leading up to that

whatever you do, dont rebuild it thinking you'll get more money out of the sale unless you get the parts & labor for free.
