Ok i apologize up front if i posted this in the wrong forum. Anyways this is my first turbo charged car i have owned and today i was told by my local Subaru dealership thats its normal for a turbo car to burn up to 1 quart of oil per THOUSAND miles?!!? Doesnt that seem extreme?!!? That would mean one would have to put 2-3 quarts of oil before there next oil change.....wow!!!

Had mine for a year now, no oil usage. Maybe the type of oil you use.

Quote:
Engine Over-revving
• Subaru engines are equipped with a fuel cut-off device that prevents engine over-revving on acceleration. However, over-revving due to shift-down on MT vehicles can not be prevented.
• Driving under these conditions will also consume engine oil at a much higher rate than consumed during normal driving conditions.
• It is highly recommended that the oil level should be checked at every fill-up, especially if the vehicle is being driven under severe driving conditions or aggressively.

Note. Oil starvation or lack of lubrication failures are generally not a matter for warranty. It is the owners responsibility to maintain their vehicle. Including maintaining all fluid levels.

My old 05 I used synthetic Redline and saw the same problem, after a little while I would notice that I burned 1 quart every 2-3K miles. I have never used synthetic oil in my 06, only the blend from the dealership, and have never burned oil or at least not enough to notice. Nocking on wood as I write this.

I was told by my dealers sevice MGR that 1qt every 1k miles is normal.
I see less burn off than that, but I do notice a little.

I'm at 5100 miles on 5W30 Mobil 1 fully synthetic. When I did my change I put in exactly 4.2 quarts as the manual says. On the dipstick the oil level was almost to the MAX line. Now, at 5100 miles it's right in the middle between MIN and MAX or whatever they are labeled.
I guess oil consumption depends on several factors:
-temperatures
-driving conditions
-driving habbits
-oil viscosity/grade
-oil brand
At least, that's what I've noticed from lurking all the oil topix. I'm sticking with Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic until I have a strong real reason to switch. It's been good to me on all cars.

Apparently I burned too much oil and I ended up breaking down and having my turbo replaced. The mechanic said that the oil level was only low one quart! I changed my oil 3,000 mile before the incident.

Just check oil levels at every fill up and you wont make any mistakes.
