Hi All,

Our '98 Brighton is the first car my wife and I bought new. We chose it because we wanted all-wheel drive and at the time it was one of a few models with de-powered Airbags (safer for smaller drivers.)

We bought the only Brighton they had on the lot (salesman was pissed because it was the cheap-to-buy car they used to draw in business. "Nobody buys the Brighton" he told us. We Did!

We had some trouble with the brakes at first and it was like pulling teeth to get if fixed (No dedicated Subie dealers at the time) until a Subaru tech rep drove the car two feet and apologised. A new master cylinder was fitted and all was well.

Until yesterday we really haven't done anything to the car except for a timing belt at 70,000 miles and the stick-shift linkage u-joint at around 100K.

Last week I decided not to buy another car but to restore Subie so with 130,000 miles I am moving into the DIY maintenance phase of owning the car. Yesterday I changed out the front axle shafts and have a laundry list of items to replace or upgrade. I'll also do a little "De-Brightonising" starting with the instrument cluster.

I'm looking forward to participating in the Forum, here are a few shots of our Legacy.

Dave

Nice car. I just sold my 98 Outback to my brother in law after I got my LGT up and running. Mine had 185K on it when I let it go.

Nice Brighton! Head on over to the second gen forum where all your questions will be answered.

My second gen is running strong w/263k on the clock. Welcome to the site.

What's up with the tape? Is that a camera or something?

Thanks Guys,

I love to hear about the high mileage cars. Hopefully we'll join the 200k club one day.

The tape and camera were for a film project our daughter was working on. ( http://youtu.be/gx5xMZlibBs )

For some reason we never took pictures of the car itself. Subie has been a welcome backdrop to our lives but not really in the limelight.

However, we were excited to take this picture a few years ago.....
