watching the news this morning, and saw this. a 2012 STi driven by a 17 year old with his friends. i have driven on that highway before, it has very sharp turns and gets very wet in the rain. my thoughts were, he was speeding, didnt see the turn (which they call dead mans curve) and locked his rear brakes. parents bought the car for him, the 4 victims did not deserve any of this RIP, it horrible to see that out of everyone that made it was the idiot driver who should'nt have been driving from the first place, the parents should take some blame, i would never buy my 17 year old kid (if i had one) a 305 hp car for his first car. thoughts or ideas?

Holy Jesus! That's terrible! This is why you don't get a new driver a rally car and pack it with distracting friends, non of which have a developed prefrontal cortex to make logical decisions. So sad for their families!

Rich parents getting a darwin award.

I'm sorry for the other kids and their families, though.

its so sad that mommy and daddy dont do research and see what their stupid teen could end up like... in my area there have been so many subaru accidents that when i first started looking at first cars my father absoultely ruled out any sort of subaru. thankfully i convinced him an impreza was a safe reliable car and there wasnt a turbo so i couldnt get into trouble. he saw and heard about all the accidents and he knows that they are capable of. its so sad.

Young drivers will make mistakes - just try to make sure that the mistakes they make will be making only will damage their pride or at most be a few bruises.

Really sucks when there are people dying in an accident.

Why do I have a strange feeling we'll see a lawsuit against the dealership and/or Subaru because of this?

theres too many accidents in subaru turbo'd cars (mainly the wrx/sti's) they couldnt sue because of that... if that were the case im sure subaru wouldnt be making turbo vehicles anymore..

They should be liable for the negligent actions of their child that they enable.

The account I read said it happened at 4:00 AM. And his permit did not allow passengers.

There seems to be an assumption floating around here that if the same kid was in a less powerful car, he would have driven that car completely within its limits. Personally, I don't think that horsepower killed those people - bad judgement did. That's all it takes, and a person can exercise bad judgement in any car.
