I have 56,000 miles and still have estimated 1/2 life left on the pads, and rotors are good too. 95% highway miles and I am VERY easy on the brakes in general. VERY little brake dust on the wheels too, which is great. I intend to stay OEM when I need new brakes in the future.
I had an Audi A6 that made thick black brake dust like it was it's job. A 300 mile highway round trip, with virtually NO use of the brakes, and I would have a nice thick and even black coating on the wheels, almost like soot. It was nasty.
I can go 3000 miles with less brake dust on the Legacy (not that I wait that long to wash the car though
I would certainly say that the Audi had superior stopping power. There is no question with that...
