I'm wondering....

I'm getting the HK w/ hands free and bluetooth streaming. When I pair my iPhone with the car, what are my music-podcast options? Do I have to use BT streaming or can I plug directly into the media hub? I'd prefer the media hub so it will charge the phone.

Has anyone found limitations to the HK/ BT/ Media Hub setup?

I can tell you that with an iPhone 3G or iPhone 4 that the plug option does work but it can be a little glitchy... Sometimes playback doesn't work at all, or toucans access your playlists, etc, but it usually works just fine and you can use the steering wheel controls and all. The Bluetooth works fine as well, but you have to plug it in to charge it anyways. Lastly, I think if you plug it in, even if you keep listening to the fm radio, the phone's iPod will still be playing music and it gets super hot and slows down charging.

Oh and one more thing. Plugging it in generates the "this accessory does not work with this phone" generic error, but when you hit dismiss it's fine.

I have a Palm Pre and I can get my Pandora to stream via BT with not too much trouble. Every once in a while it will randomly loose connection. Sometimes I can just restart it but for the most part it won't reconnect until restart the car.

I have no issues with my old Iphone 3G or my new Iphone 4. The only problem I have had is being able to transfer my contacts. Also a quick note on grounding out the parking safty thing is worth it's weight in part Dr. pepper and part lemon pie. Yes that was a stupid last comment. But I do luv being able to scroll through my ipod while driving.

Yes! It might not charge quite as fast as if it were plugged into a computer, but it will certainly charge.

This doesn't reallt work for the non-navi hk systems, or does it? Our ipod controls are limited to moving up and down the playlist with the steeringwheel and/or dash control. You cannot navigate the ipod for different folders at all.

I only know that it works for the HK navi which the OP was talking about. Not sure about any others though.

Since I don't read manuals, is there a quick start set up you guys with HK Navi? Like is it intuitive to set up contacts from my iPhone etc? BT voice recognition....do I have to learn some commands?

I don't normally read manuals either. You will with this head unit though, it is not user friendly by any means. I still can't figure out how to get the BT Voice recognition to work. You can get the manual on line though and read it ahead of time of you like. If you can't find it I think I have a copy I can send you. E-mail me off line.

So I emailed SOA for some BT and Navi materials. They sent me some pdf's so I could review it while I wait. I told them I heard it wasn't entirely intuitive.

I forwarded my dealer the SOA email and he told me I could come in and play w/ the navi in a new demo they just got in.

Hi,

Just purchased my first Subaru 3 days ago. I've been trying to figure this out as well...and I agree, it's not very user friendly. I've gotten as far as getting my iPhone 4 paired to make hands-free calling. But all numbers had to be entered individually...nothing actually came over from the address book on the phone itself. So, the phone part works ok, but I've not been able to get BT audio streaming to work, simply because I can't get the HK head unit into the "Media2" mode that it's supposed to be in. This is supposed to happen by cycling through the SAT button....but it doesn't happen here.

As far as plugging the iPhone (or iPod) into the MediaHub itself, well, that's not all that intuitive either. It's a little funky how you have to scroll though the playlists. In fact, my salesperson told me that most people flat out give up on it, and simply get a stereo mini-to-mini plug and go from the iPod headphone out into the Aux input and control everything from the iPod interface. I can see how it's much faster this way, but of course, you're back to messing with you're iPod while driving...rather than at least having the ability to advance to the next track from the steering wheel.
