Looks to be pretty serious. Not sure if the owner is a member here or not but my prayers go out to all those involved.
You can see video of the aftermath here: http://wdel.com/story.php?id=46347
Quote:
A massive crash with serious injuries shutters I-95 northbound at the height of rush hour.
It happened after 3pm Wednesday. A witness tells WDEL's TrafficWatch that an SUV traveling southbound on I-95, approaching Route 896 was hit by another car heading southbound and flipped over the guardrail onto the northbound side of the highway.
Two people were hurt. The 24-year-old man behind the wheel of the car that flipped over was trapped inside his vehicle. He's been taken to Christiana Hospital with serious head injuries. He remains in critical condition.
The 20-year-old female driver of the other car suffered chest injuries, but she's in stable condition.
All four lanes of I-95NB were shut down for several hours as police were investigating. The crash is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
|
After reading another news site I'm pretty sure the stable injury is the Legacy owner and it's the other driver who is in critical condition.

I was thinking the same thing. One of the main reasons my wife bought a Nissan Titan was because as she was coming home from work one day she passed an accident where a dump truck crossed over and hit one head on. The Titan's front was destroyed but the structure of the cab kept the driver safe and he was able to walk away from it.....

Looks like when the Escalade crossed into the NB lanes the Leggy t-boned it and it got wrapped around the front of the Subaru.

I'm not seeing side curtain airbag deployment. Wouldn't they be hanging down and visible after a crash of this magnatude?

Only in a direct side impact. The sensor is inside the door or the b pillar. Looks like the main impact was the front.

Damn, someone else beat me to the mrLaw comment....I mean... Don't be so insensitive!
Anyway, side air bags are definately out. That's a pretty rough crash it looks like. I know there will be the "the Subaru saved their lives blah blah blah" floating around on here eventually but I'm goin to go with luck on this one. No matter what car your in, your lucky to survive an impact like that.

I think the SUV driver will be lucky to survive. The Legacy passenger compartment is barely tweaked from that impact.

Hope the driver of the SUV makes it through ok. The passenger compartment of the Legacy looks amazingly intact considering how mushed the SUV which rolled in front of them was. Sounds like it was a hit and run in the southbound lanes which flipped the SUV into traffic (the Legacy) on the northbound side
The side curtain airbags definitely deployed - I would guess the side airbags (on the seat) didn't, though - they need a more direct side impact to go.
