I tried searching and didn't find this anywhere. The new car I'm picking up is coming with a spoiler installed. All of the Legacy's I've seen on the road that have the spoiler have the brake light working on the spoiler itself and on the rear deck. Too many brake lights for my taste. Does anyone know how I can disable the third brake light on the rear deck? Thanks

I unplugged mine for the same reason. I laid in my trunk and used a pair of needle nose pliers to disconnect the clip. I was kind of tough to do cause of the limited room to move the pliers. It can be done, but it is a pain in the ass.

Wouldn't it just be easier to just pull out the bulb? If anything just have the dealer do it for you before you pick it up.

I looked in the trunk. I can't see any wiring harness that looks like it goes there and i can't even see how i would get access to the light. I can have the dealer do it but i will have to go back. Can't miss my tire appointment

Just give the dealer a call before you pick it up. You don't take delivery until Saturday right? I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do it for you. It'll probably take the tech a minute to unplug it.

You can't pull the bulb, its 4 LED's in an enclosure. If you look closely you will see it, I'll see if I can take a picture in the morning. Or you could always see if the dealer will do it as magic marker said, but they may charge you.

I bought a piece of black thin stiff foam and marked it to shape around the third brake light housing and then slid it into place to block the light. That way if some over-zealous cop says I need to have "all" my lights working, I can just pull out the foam to appease the jerk and then put it back in later...

Open the rear seats to the trunk. Pull off the trim on the lip of the rear deck where the seats would normally be. Pull up rear deck. Unplug wires.

Thats not bad thinking, I have 20% percent tint so you cant even see the light...the tint on the hand is very illegal in Mass I would lose that battle either way if I ran into an over zealous cop...

I had to tap into a brake light wire to connect my OEM clone spoiler, but it looks like there is a plug just waiting to be hooked into with the right connector. Pull out the "pushpin clips" that hold the liner to the inside of the trunk lid. Pull the liner off, and you can find the wire that goes to the spoiler.
Is there any kind of law that would prohibit disabling the third brake light on the spoiler because it partially obstructs the third brake light in the rear window?

Even tint on your back windows is illegal? In Jersey, we could paint all of our windows black (not that I would) except for the two front windows and the windshield and it would be legal. They just don't want anything on those fronts.

Yeah, anything below 35% in Mass is illegal....kinda sucks but it looks good so I don't care in the least.

I would like to place a in-line switch someplace easy to access from trunk so I can turn the parcel shelf center brake light off. The center brake light on my factory wing is adequate. I looked up under the deck from the trunk but don't see wires running to that light. Anyone know where the wires feed into the deck? Maybe on one side of the upper seat frame? I assume the fuse that powers that led brake light has other components on it, so pulling a fuse would not work.

Rear drivers side door under the pillar is the plug. I will try to take a pic of it later.
