Rebuild vs Swap

I looked in search but I didn't find much on the cost or difficulties. I have a 2005 GT 5EAT with about 120K and seems to be starting to leak oil around the seals. I used to have a 2004 Sti but kids came first and It had to go..
I miss the power and pull ..
So I figured the motor needs to be pulled soon why not give it a kick in the Ars.
I was think 300 to 350 Hp and if I feel little foggy maybe a little Higher and I was not sure if I should buy a low miles Sti engine and do 5EAT Valve Body Modification Or Rebuild engine with kit and 5EAT Valve Body Modification.

If there is any better ways to go about it I'm all ears...

if there is nothing wrong with your stock block other than seals and you are gonna pull it anyways, just fix your block. its the same as an STI for the most part anyways. after that, go stage 2 with a catless exhaust and see how you like it.

Check the tranny forum here for the Hexmod's upgrade your tranny will need.

Then get your valve cover seals replaced and go stage 2.

i just did an engine swap. 2550 for the engine (shipped) Vs. atleast 2500-3000 for parts and labor and a month for rebuild

what seals are you referring to? as others have stated, this does not sound like a good reason to need a replacement short block.

Well I wanted to bump up the power. So I figured with 120k on the engine it would be better to rebuild it with new seals and internals. I was just unsure with 120k on the engine and just doing seals that the engine wont go if I bump up the power.. There is a few small seeping spots here and there. But the main one is dripping on were the up-pipe and headers meet up..

Stay away from the IPT trans upgrades.
Go with Hexmods F1. You will not be disappointed, and you will be funding his 08+ venture. Give us some hope haha.

The only issue I would have personally with that route, and this is from experience is that you NEVER know what you are going to get in a used motor, even if you pull the motor yourself from a running car, let alone something you get on the internet. I'm not saying there aren't good motors that have been shipped and installed over the years, however it is a dice roll unfortunately.

If it's only oil leaks then it shouldn't be a big deal to use that engine. Just check the PCV valve if you have oil leaks because if it's clogged then you will have oil leaks soon again.

But on the other hand - getting a second engine and building on that can be a good idea because then you have time to do everything right and won't be without your car while you do the rebuild.
