I have a 2000 Legacy GT, I ve had a low brake pedal for a while and had the car looked at twice but they couldnt find anything wrong. I starting working on the brakes about a week ago when I realized that only my front calipers were working. First I replaced the master brake cylinder ( I bench bled it before installing it), also the new master brake cylinder is for a Brighton, will that still work in a GT?. Next, I replaced all four rotors, new brake pads, and rebuilt the rear calipers. Today I bled the brake system starting at the right rear wheel, then left rear, right front, and left front. During this process I filled up the master cylinder reservoir four times yet I still have a low brake pedal. Maybe a new booster? Thanks

ya, but you never know if they are damaged or not, always good to check everything,i find alot of times its usually the small things that cause the issue, it can be the booster though

Okay I ll check the brake lines. I thought it might be the booster too, but when I have engine off and press the brake pedal it feels like there is pressure, then when I turn the engine on the brake pedal goes down to the floor almost.

So having a Brighton model master brake cylinder in a GT model is okay?

According to rockauto.com, the catalog lists the brighton MC to be a smaller diameter than the other models with rear discs.

Yeah, I replaced the master cylinder with the correct model, and rebled everything and the problem still exsists. A friend is bringing over a power bleeder, I hope that helps but I am running out of ideas.

I hope that you did take care to lubricate the guiding pins for the calipers, but considering that you did replace the pads it shouldn't be the problem.
Bleeding brakes can be tough on some cars, and if you have an ABS unit you may need to bleed it separately and not just at the calipers. Make sure you rinse any spill with water well after bleeding.

Wut?
Did you mix up right and left side?
I didn't know that it even was possible otherwise.
