OK. I don't get fired up about much but I'm a man on a mission in this case. If you've read my previous thread on this issue, http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showt...124#post628124 , you'll see exactly what I'm PO'd about and what I'm trying to do.

I tracked down a technician who's been extremely helpful and generous so far. I emailed him my dilema and here was his response:

Thanks Freddy

I do have some info for you the nav system in your Subby is a FGZ-000UF2 it is not just based on the KNA DV3200 it is a KNA 3200 and a ddx 7015 with menus made specifically for Subaru 2 people have already done my mod them I am sending you 2 files the first is my how to guide with only the pics of the mod and not the screenshots the second is a service manual for your FGZ-000UF2 Nav system the mod is done the same way on your system but the last guy asked me for it so he could be sure he was messing with the right wires

If your really crafty I heard you could add a composite video and audio input by adding a few parts to your systems circuit board but I don't know how to do it myself

good luck if you have any questions my door is always open

Stefan
I realize that Spec.B and '06EAT w/Navi owners are a minority here. I'm sure that community will be growing and I'm know I'm not the only one who is passionate about making these changes. I'm a Sys Admin with Perl, PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript knowledge and am sure I could figure out how to hack the damned thing If I could just figure out how to get in there. I've posted the document and FGZ-000UF2 manual on my site. I've yet try any of this stuff - do so at your own risk. Here they are...

Edited 6-17-06: Found the KNA-DV3200 manual. Here it is:

are you trying to just get a/v into your factory nav unit or are you trying to reprogram the whole system?

A/V input is a secondary thought. Yes, I want to reprogram/tweak the factory options.

The change I want most is the ability for a passenger to enter addresses, etc. which the car is moving.

Can your man get his hands on the service manual for the navigation unit that sits under the driver's seat? I suspect it holds the processor that prevents data entry while moving.

Yea I hear ya. The change I want most and am desperate for is to ditch the stupid accelleration and multiple fuel consumption gauges. I'm desperate to replace them with Boost and EGT gauges. How sweet that would be! And for those that suggested it, no I'm not interested in installing some aftermarket system but thanks. I like the full intergration of the stock unit.

I just emailed him and asked him. Feel free to ask him questions too. His email address is in that hack document. I just wouldn't want him spammed. I found him through some of his posts on mp3car.com.

I'll let you know what I find.

here are the pics and some more info. the wire that needs to be cut for the nav functions to unlock is green/black at the dvd drive under the driver's seat. on the road test this is how it worked.

-when you break the conn. the frozen icons will light up
-the arrow will stop moving on the screen
-@10 sec. after you breck the conn. the sat. picks up your location and the arrow will start to move again, but its choppy
-@20 sec. after you break the conn. the icons will freeze again, its figured out your still moving and locks you out.
-breaking the conn. again will bring them back
-it does'nt lock you out if your in the middle of entering a destination

this seems to work okay, not flawless but better than nothing. leaving the ant. plugged in does seem to help it repostion you quicker after it loses you.

hope the pictures help with the video input and e-brake lock out

i used your service manual download to figure out the back up camera. it works flawless. the screen instantly changes to the backup video source when you throw it in reverse. it even overides the wake up and disclaimer screens. heres a pic of the back of the screen. thanks for the service manual.

looking at the back of the screen

-top right pin (1) is video + or the center pin of your rca jack
-bottom left pin (4) is video shield this is also the detection input

Are you saying that you can hook up a video source to those pins and it works with no other modifications?

no mods needed at all. just have your back up camera plugged in and put it in reverse. just plug in your video jack and press the info button on screen.

This is friggin fantastic news!!!! If I can do the camera trick, eliminate the EULA, and program the boost gauge, I'll be happy as a pig in ****.

Now that I think about it, and taking a cursory look at that service manual, I'm beginning to think that there is a seperate Subaru ECU module somewhere feeding an AUX input on that thing providing the gauges, mileage, etc. Or is it a combo of the DVDs and some line input? I'll have to take it apart, maybe this weekend, to see.

The DVD ROM Drive/NAVI under our seats is the KNA 3200. The operational manual is in the Forum somewhere. For the service manual and CD changer service manual, as I mentioned in my PM (this is an FYI for others), open my posted document and email Stefan for your needs. The guys is unbelievably helpful an friendly. He's an installation tech BTW. I can't thank him enough.

He just sent me the DDX 7015 service manual for comparison with the FGZ-000UF2. They're nearly identical.

Now if you want to see all the gory details of hooking up the computer to the Kenwood he did, check out his thread here:
