Did we do something wrong? The bracket is pretty visible...

Yes, it looks like you got them swapped on the wrong sides, or maybe just turned around. I just checked mine. From the vertical hole in the rear finder liner, they should go horizontally forward, then up, then inboard horizontally to the inner flap bolt, and the flap should sit against the horizontal portion of the bracket, not as you have it in the vertical position.

I did the same thing when I installed mine Jen, I sat there with a really confused look on my face and held the little bracket up in about every imaginable orientation before I finally got it. RA could really use to supply a better picture with their instructions.

OMG - you rock. I'm going back out in the morning (OK, WE are going back out in the morning) to look at it again. You are correct that the pictures that are supplied could be a ton better... Even with the front ones though, I'm not all that thrilled with their over all look. Thanks a ton for your help Joe. Much appreciated.

Once you get all the hardware kinda snugged up, push the flaps inboard as much as possible, while keeping them plumb to the ground of course. They look much better when they only stick out the minimum amount. Also for fronts, when you get them positioned inboard and plumb, loosen the upper screw, push down on the top of the flap and re-tighten. Or loosen the 2 outboard screw a little, push the flap against the fender, hold it there and retighten. You want some slack between the upper and lower screws. That will help it match and hug the curve of the fender better.

The other thing I did was place some stainless steel washers behind the flaps at the two outboard front screw locations. This got rid of the "pucker" that the flaps get when tightened due to the shallow recesses in the fender liner for the screws.

Yes I can, but not right now while at work. I can't email photos to myself here cuz the cell coverage sucks for data transfer. Will try to remember to do it this evening.

Have only had them on since early last December. Not sure what I am going to do for the summer, but I will definately take them off this spring to clean everything well. We really don't get any rain here from April to November, sometimes a few days in a row in May, and only two or three days of brief showers the remainder of that time, so there is not much of a reason to leave them on. And I rarely drive on dirt or gravel roads.

They do look better with wheels with a lower offset or spacers for the OEM rims. Regardless, the OEM flaps do not work and these do.

Everyone asks me why the mudflaps, and instead of explaining the reasoning (protect paint, looks etc.) I just narrow it down to its a subaru thing lol!

I'm with you, for now, 'it's a Subaru thing'! It actually prompted a neighbor I'd only briefly met to come out and say hi. He own an SVX and was glad to see another Subie owner doing some work. Out of 41 town homes on our court, we are now up to 8-9 Subies, though we skew the numbers with 3 in one house!
