So I was going to thread jack one of the recent oil change questions, but I thought I better not. I have always used T6 in my turbo cars,I had thought I read somewhere that it is actually bad for the N/A cars but I cannot find that information anymore. Anyone have an opinion or currently use this for N/A ?

Ping Mike from AZP Installs, he's on here.
The man's an oil-pairing guru for all Subaru engine/tranny flavors.
I haven't heard him say anything bad abour Rotella but he seems to swear by Motul and Amsoil stuff.

T6 is 5W40.
I wouldn't use it, as our engine calls for 5W30.
Personally, I'm a Redline fan.

Well the GT also calls for 5w-30 and it seems to be a popular choice. I have never used redline before, but I have heard good things about it.

It is not wise to Rotella T6 5w-40 in a N/A engine no matter what. I personelly use Rotella T6 5w-40 in my 1992 Legacy SS turbo with no issues at all and use it in 2006 STi again no problems.

Can I ask why? Again I had heard this before, just curious if you have the knowledge I am seeking, I also ran t6 in my WRX and it was great.

The owners manual (for 2012, anyway) says you can use 5W30 or 5W40 for all temperatures in the NA engines (so the 2.5i or the 3.6R) - so in terms of viscosity, the T6 should be ok...

There ya go that little graph has a lot of info. I've run the T6 and would do it again.

5W40 should be great actually. I've read a lot of articles and posts on bob is the oil guy about this and the 0W30 viscosity (for various cars and out of curiosity). Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

T6 should have all the additives and be fine in an n/a engine. Yeah it's designed for high temp turbo applications, but it won't hurt. The sulfur count will be high.....on an oil analysis.

Per the Rotella T6 info sheet, it has an API rating of SM and SL. If this oil does have an SM rating, why dont the bottles of the stuff say it is recommended for passenger cars? They only mention that it can be used with diesel engine vehicles.

I used it on my stage 3.5 turbo outback because i would never burn a drop of oil. That engine was beat the hell and ran like a champ. If walmart had the stuff in stock id be using it in my 3.6r. The 40 viscosity eventually shears down to a lighter weight anyway
