i have been researching the subject of gen3 strut bars now for a while and i think i have figure out the following:
front bar: can use front impreza bar up to 01 as a direct fit
rear bar: gen 4 rear bar with minor modifications.
i just want to make sure i am right before i order everything. rear will be first as i am extensively working on the rear of my wagon.

As you've said is correct.

Beatrush make an under floor rear bar so you don't lose trunk space/have some piece of alloy that does nothing*.

* I have one. It does nothing.
Front you can feel when you push the car hard.

i have a rear bar coming for a gen 4 that will need minor moding to get it to work. also the impreza bar for up to 2001 does fit the front.

I know the '93-'01 Impreza front strut bar fits. Had a friend give me one from his old '00 OBS and it bolted right onto my '04 BE

I think you're thinking of the sway bar. The strut bars connect the tops of the strut towers to each other.
