It may be normal to cycle the A/C compressor off while acclerating, however it is not normal for the car to lose it's cool so quickly. The Subaru is the only vehicle I've owned that starts blowing warmer air by just trying to accelerate onto a freeway. It also seems to turns off under load so if I am going up hill for a while or up a long grade, I am better off rolling down my windows.
To prevent warm air entering cabin, always use recirc mode. This way, even if the AC is auto disengaged, the fan will suck in already cool cabin air and direct it through the vents. This will minimize the temperature difference.
I always drive with recirc on. Even under heavy acceleration, I don't feel the AC lose its cool.
