Hello,
I was have an 05 LGT 5EAT with a Cobb dp and FMS cbe waiting to be put on and I'm looking to "bullet proof" my tmic.
I am looking to get a safe, efficient, and reliable tune on my stock vf40. Im not looking for something crazy, I just want it to be better than stock and not put strain on either the turbo and engine as the turbo is 17k miles old and the new shortblock is 15k miles old.
What type of tuning would best fit my needs and my expectations?
I probably won't ever mess with the tune ever again for a couple years.
Thank you for your time,
Tony
Pricing:
E-tune: ???? What ever Infamous or Cryo charges + cable.
Road tune: $325
Dyno: I can get a special deal for $350 or $375

Since you're just looking at a simple stage 2 tune (STG2 b/c of DP), an eTune should be fine. With an 05 ECU you can use a VAG-COM ($15) or Tactrix Openport cable ($180).
Both Cryotune Performance and Infamous charge about $150 for Stage 2 that include refinement revisions. Both are capable tuners. Dave (Cryo) took great care of me and I can't recommend him enough! The CryoTune Performance FAQ is a great read for your situation and he's quick to respond to any email inquiries you may have before, during, and after you tune with him.

It's nice to have your own cable. I have been troubleshooting a new issue on my car and I've used it daily for almost 2 weeks straight now. For $15 it's worth it to be able to log or peak at ECU health with learning view. I went with the Tactrix so I can log without a laptop in the car if I want to.

So if the tractix better than the vag-com?
I really dont want to mess with thinks in my car that is why I would prefer getting it tunned by a pro, for peace of mind. I'm afraid ill mess something up. and for 180+150= 330, I'd pay a bit extra and call it a day? Dont you think?
Unless the vagcom option will do me the same..

At only stg 2 an etune is more than sufficient. If that dyno tune price is from a reputable tuner I like that idea as well.

Vag-com will do the same for you since you have an '05. It won't work with the '07+. If I were you I'd just go for the vag-com cable and save the money. The tactrix is better because of it's compatibility with more ecu's, software, support etc, but for your purposes specifically, it's not worth the extra coin.
