So ive been reading the forums and it looks as if most 2.5 are cvt. how many people actually own a manual ? is it really as rare as the dealers claim?

Mt is generally more rare in general. I think the vast majority of people look to auto or cvt for the simplicity and ease and i think driving a manual is dying skill anyway. Most people dont have the faintest idea about how to opearate a manual trans.

I have a M/T as well. It was the only one on the lot out of 35ish legacies.
The impreza wrx's i meat-gazed were all manuals, as was the new coupe thingie (bz??)
I was actually looking to buy an outbacks or a legacy though.... But if i got the n/a legacy (i did) i wanted a stick. But yes, it feels like i'm the only one driving around in a stick. ROFL

well obviously i have mine in a manual also. what colors do you guys have? and have you done any mods? and in a response to the 2.5 being under powered yes its low on power but with a manual its still amazingly fun! a cvt would be horrible in my opinion .

I have the manual too, It's the only one I found out of the two dealerships in my area.

I have a manual too, in black. I also had to go out of my way to find it. Like 250 miles away to Cleveland...even though the Subi assembly plant is just up the road. (Admittedly, I am not sure which models they assemble there.)

no mods (yet). eventually some exhaust, intake and the sounds.
i have the 2.5i Permium w/ moonroof, all weather package and 6 speaker stereo, which sounds like crap to me because my previous cars had Boston Acoustics or Bose.
off the bat, i got my windows tinted, 35%...
next up will be the stereo. the door speakers are all 5 1/4" based on cruthfield, so i'm going to replace those first. i'm weary of replacing the head unit for now as i don't want to loose the blue tooth capability... listening to my iPhone through it.
i have the ice metallic silver. other than the stereo, i have no issues with the car.
as for the power, i'd say it isn't that bad and exactly why i went with the manual. my previous cars were all V8's and had excellent sound systems. Magnum R/T and a Caddy STS.
outside of custom ordering the subaru, i don't like their package options.

I would really like if someone with real knowledge concerning the percentage of LGTs and manual 2.5is sold, would read this thread and comment. All I know is from my personal research, in my area.
Our dealer is one of those absolutely huge super stores. Contrary to many such places, our people are truly good. Their prices are fair, their sales people knowledgeable, and their shop gets it right.
I know they have sold very, very few LGTs. In fact, in the last 3 years, I remember only 2 on their lot. I am sure a number were sold of which I am not aware. However, I was told that overall, they sold less 2.5i manual Legacies, than GTs.
I have driven a Legacy with the CVT transmission. It is not horrible at all - very nice, really. It is a totally different driving experience. However, since early on - and I am old - I have been wired for manual transmission cars. Yes, I have owned a number of automatics, for the convenience of other family members.
2.5i underpowered? I think the power is adequate for the design parameters of the car. If one thinks he will accelerate rapidly in 6th gear from 40 mph, he will be disappointed. If he knows how to use a manual transmission, all will be well. And the manuals are simply a hoot to drive.
My 6MT 2.5i is red. My dealer had no manuals when I wanted to buy. Neither did any other dealers they checked with, in a rather large area. I ordered the car. It was at the time of the earthquake tragedy in Japan. By some sort of minor miracle, my car arrived in two weeks. Our dealer said it was the first time it had ever happened that way. I remember I was really not prepared, as I was told it would take a number of months.
I have done no engine modifications, because there really are not any that make a difference, short of spending the gross national product of a small country. However, I have had some fun... Added a 19mm RSB - and what a difference it did make. I asked Brandon to create some simple custom graphics for me, and they look good. I put on a double front grille. I installed a roof spoiler, with an incredibly well-matched OEM paint job. I purchased a really nice Delrin shift knob from a shop I learned about on the board. Etc. Small stuff, but fun.
It seems that any of us that own a 6MT 2.5i do own a rather rare breed, especially now that manuals are only going to be offered in the base Legacy. Awhile back, I worked with Brandon, as he designed a 'Save The Manuals' vinyl graphic, that now graces both of my side rear stationary windows. It is small and classy. Brandon has them in both 5 and 6 speed patterns.
Odlgt says above that the art of shifting is dying. He is correct. Our daughter loves cars. A whole lot. She drives my 16 year old LGT wagon. It is an automatic. As more and more cars are being offered with no stick option, I am beginning to question her need to learn manual. Sigh.
Best..

When we started looking, a member on here did a search for me.
One in VA about 40 minutes away, went to test drive it, but didn't want to buy it because it was blue w/ light interior.
The closest 2 red ones, were 1.5 or 4 hours away in PA. I'm sure it's safe to say there aren't many.
Can't wait til we try to find a manual Forester- now that should be real fun.

I just bought a ruby red 6 speed premium last week. I had decided on a premium/6 speed/awp/moonroof. I searched all the dealers in MA and borders of the neighboring states, I found 6 of them. I bought the only red one left. I probably found 2 dozen 6 speeds in total (Premium & Base) We have 2 LGT in the area left for reference, so I would guess that the LGT are much less common than the 6 speed 2.5's. The dealers all seemed pretty motivated to move the 6 speeds, maybe they are that way about all 2012 since the '13 are trickling in but no one pulled out the 'rare card'.
Other random observations.
I found a bunch of Ice Silver base 2.5i 6 speed's (8) and 2.5i premiums (2) so almost half of the remain 6 speed 12's were silver in my area. All the base 2.5i 6 speeds in any color had the Alloys/awp package. I noticed that if a dealer had one a 6 speed in inventory they had more than one 6 speed (and it seem like all had a Silver base 2.5i 6 speed) I also didn't see any 6 speed 2013's.
