Hi All, I am the original owner of a 2005 2.5XT 135,000 miles. The engine is still strong but I am thinking about getting it replaced or overhauled soon. I live in the SF bay area. It may not seem like a lot of miles but they are CITY miles. Would like to know if there are any rebuild shops in the area. Thanks!

If it still runs well why do you think it needs to be rebuilt? I'd say as long as the compression is good and it doesn't make any weird noises or run rough or anything like that, then there's no reason to rebuild it other than to help the shop make money.

Engines are supposed to be replaced every 90,000mi, you're WAY overdue! Go get a new engine now before this one blows up and.....and you have to get a new engine.

Thats just silly, if it runs good and doesn't burn a lot of oil leave it alone.

exactly! just remove the timing belt from the old engine and install on the new engine while your there...

Agreed, if you can get the compression checked out and it checks out good, no need to replace or rebuild.

I would do a compression and cylinder leak down tests. If both come back good then leave the motor alone and just worry about maintenance stuff, like Oil change, timing Belt, water pump, alternator, battery, Spark plugs, air filter, tranny fluid, Coolant flush, ect...

The engine is making a tapping noise at idle. Doesn't sound good. Plus it's city driving. In San Fran. Just starting to look. Never know.

So.....you hear a little rattle/tapping/vibration and you figure an engine replacement is in order rather than taking it to have it inspected? Do I have this logic right?
