Hi, I'd like to check the screen on my banjo bolt on my subaru legacy GT, however I've never been able to successfully locate it. Does anyone have any tips on how to locate and clean the screen in this bolt?
just locate the oil feed line that is on top of your turbo and follow that line down to the block. That bolt that holds the line to the block in the banjo bolt you are looking for. It should be a 17mm bolt (maybe a 14). Remove the screen and toss it in the trash. You do not need it. Subaru didnt put that filter in any of their other cars.. not sure why the 05-06 LGTs have them.. I think they tried it then decided against it since turbos kept blowing.
Remove the small turbo bracket closest to the p/s side. One 14mm nut on the up pipe and the 14mm bolt in trans. That's the little metal bracket that is above the banjo bolt. Prob easiest tool is a ratcheting wrench or a 12pt
I did mine the other day and what a pitfa. I had to use a 17mm crows foot for the bolt. Turns out it was already removed by someone due to me having a new turbo. I removed the bolt and there are two crush washers. One on each side of the line. Well when i removed the bolt the washer that was sandwitched against the block fell down but luckly I 8 new washers from subaru. THis was the tricky part. With there being hardly any room I put the bolt back into the line partially. Then pryed back on the feed line a bit so i could feed down a brand new washer attached to a piece of very thin solder that I hooked around the washer. One it appered lined up with the bolt threads I pushed the bolt threw and pulled the solder up quickly. Took me about 2.5 hrs total.
