Hi guys, I wasn't sure where to put this as there's no electrical section. I've got a 1998 BG liberty. On a recent trip we managed to unscrew the metal rim on the back of the 12v socket causing what I think were intermittent grounding problems and loss of power at the socket.
I had the centre console off today and refitted the socket to the brass casing and into the console. The socket has power but I seem to have uncovered a bigger problem.
Now, with the Aircon ON, the car will very briefly (a second maybe) lose power to the 12v socket and Aircon/heater/blower unit (I'm assuming all aux power) at regular intervals of less than 10seconds. It's as if a relay or solenoid is continually switching with the Aircon on causing these brief losses in electrical power.
I had noticed this actually before I'd refitted the socket but the problem was different. Essentially, with the socket hanging in the console I would occasionally lose power to the aircon/heater unit and the 12v socket but this could be rectified by repositioning where the socket hung. Additionally, the electric fans at the radiator would come on when the power was lost and switch off again when I'd found a good position for the hanging socket.
I known this is a weird problem as I can't find anything on the net about it. I wonder if anyone has some experience with this or some idea why I'd be getting these regular brief power losses only with the Aircon on now?
Any help or advice appreciated.
