Welp, went to the pickin yard today and got me a Legacy L grille, I liked it for the chrome trim and the horizontal slats rather than the outback styled grille.
Its a little shorter and leaves a gap between the bottom and the bumper cover.
I think ill get over it but it is something I wasn't aware of until today

I like the look of that grille, but A OB grille also looks pretty cool when you remove the Outback logo and paint it black. I painteb my OB grill black on the inside and left the outer trim the 2 tone color of the OB.

I dont know how clear the image is here but you can see I painted the grill black, leaving the outer edges the OB 2 tone color...

i think there were no answers because the OP wasnt a question. its also the reason i havent put an OB bumper on mine yet. im gonna do it eventually, but ill get the OB grille and hack it up and mesh it with something odd. ive tossed the idea around of adding a platform to the indent on the OB bumper to make it fit the L grille too, but need to get a bumper to mess with before seeing how difficult/ worth it it would be.

I think the small grill fits 95-97
and the "tall" fits 98-99
