My 06 GT Wagon has recently developed a chirp / metal on metal noise when backing slowly. No noise at all when moving forward. The car has 200k miles on it, as far as I know its the original driveshaft and transmission. I have a hexmods VB installed also. I have narrowed the noise the area of the transfer case where the drive shaft slides in or the front u joint in the drive shaft. I'm not feeling any unusual vibration when the noise is happening. The noise even occurs with all 4 wheels in the air in reverse so it's not load related. Nothing looks bent or as though it is rubbing. My question is this, is there a bearing on the output side of the transfer case that would cause this? Or is it more likely a driveshaft issue? I have ordered a new driveshaft with hopes that fixes it.
